Turn Sixty-Five

Story Two

Turn 65

[DM NOTE: Everyone posted lots of actions and counter actions last turn, and this is my best interpretation of events. If you disagree and think you claimed another action than this, we can discuss, but so much went on that I focused on these things: Bruce trying to move to the table and attacking Fyona if she tried to get near him; Fyona trying to solidify inside Bruce if he doesn't call off the guard (which he started to do, but Jacob stayed to attack Blade); Blade firing his ring if Bruce didn't stop trying to get to the table.]

"To Return a Blade"

Everyone acts at once. When the talking is done, Bruce attempts to move toward the desk, and Fyona tries to move through him desolid. He does not allow this, and brings his axe to bear as she tries to become solid with her knife in him. At this moment, Blade fires his ring at Bruce, and the guard, Jacob, charges Blade.

Fyona tries to get her desolid knife inside Bruce, while he tries to avoid her and bring his axe to bear. Fyona is faster, and phases through Bruce. As he tries to sidestep, she extends her knife and becomes solid. But Bruce's twisting motion moves him out of the way and she solidifies after he has moved from her reach, and she misses. He continues to turn, swinging his axe at her neck.

But Blade had also begun acting, and now the glowing Ram's head glances off Bruce's shoulder. The ram's head continues out the window, spraying broken glass and wood into the night air, but does not knock Bruce down (he made his saving throw). A voice outside in the yard can be heard, yelling, "'Ware the falling glass!" [Bruce takes 7 damage, down to 16/80.] [Fyona was not hit.]

Bruce completes his attack, hitting Fyona as she dodges backward, nearly escaping the arc of his vorpal blade. The axe cuts her across her left shoulder, slicing cleanly through leather armor and flesh. Hot blood washes down her arm. [Fyona takes 21 damage, down to 77/98.]

Then Jacob crashes into Blade, intending to bowl him over using his shield as a ram. The large bodyguard's weight and momentum carry Blade into the north wall of the room [north on the battlemap, to Blade's right; Blade takes 9 damage, down to 107/133].

The distinctive "Twang!" of a crossbow is heard, and everyone looks to the doorway of the room. Jacob grunts in pain as the bolt catches him in the hamstring. He falls to one knee, clutching at the bolt where it impales him.

"They're all still alive. I'm disappointed in you Blade, I thought you'd have killed him by now. No matter," says a snide voice from the doorway. The voice belongs to a middle aged man with red rimmed eyes and a pencil thin mustache, meticulously trimmed, dropping a crossbow and drawing a rapier with runes from hilt to tip. He wears brigandine armor styled to look like a puffed tunic, and a cape. Though the man's clothes are black, without sigil or cote, Bruce and Blade recognize him immediately--Count Vingrot, a powerful nobleman of the Northern Kingdom and a man who wants their blood for crimes of long ago.

One of the outside guards stands next to Vingrot, in the doorway, blood already on his sword. The other outside guard is nowhere to be found. Behind Vingrot and the guard stands a mage, whom everyone present recognizes as Thaddius.

Several other armed and armored men crowd the hall behind them, moving into the room. Among them is the man Bruce saw across from his villa a few days ago, obviously another of Vingrot's agents. They are all heavily armed and armored, with swords, axes, shields, and crossbows on their backs. They have no insignia on their armor, but their manner of dress looks strangely familiar to Blade and Fyona.

Thaddius is casting a spell, looking at Blade. Vingrot too moves toward Blade, saying, "When my agent," he indicates Bruce's exterior guard with the bloody sword, "told me you were here, and that you and Bruce were at odds, I knew my chance had arrived." Vingrot gives Blade the duelists' salute and assumes a classic en guard position.

"One moment please," Blade politely says to Vingroth, then fires his ring at Thaddius hoping to knock him into the guards behind him and disrupt his spell. "Damn wizards. "

He then looks at Vingroth and assumes a sword stance. "OK , I'm ready now. "

The rest of the fighters move into the room, swords drawn, to kill Fyona and Bruce.

"I told you, you damn idiot," Bruce says calmly to Blade as he pulls the crossbow and reloads it.

"You are right. I am an idiot. I thought the crossbow was still under the table." says Blade upon seeing the weapon.

"Fyona dear, "Blade says with mock politeness, remembering her glare from earlier, "if it isn't too much of a bother, could you please give our old friend Bruce a healing potion. It seems he's been granted a stay of execution."

[I don't see any healing potions on her sheet (not sure how up to date it is) , but Blade has 4 listed on hissheet and I do not think it too unreasonable that either she would have aqcuired some, or Blade had split his with her prior to infiltrating bruce's abode. ]

[For reminder on Count Vingrot, see Turn 1.]
