Turn Forty-Four
Brief Recap: Last turn, Humphrey received the message from Egmund indicating that they should seek the Obsidian Stone in a tomb located on an island off the west coast of the continent. They left, with Ozrik's blessing and some new magic items. After they had left the city they were ambushed by six humans wearing Githyanki runes. Bibi was wounded. Flight from Heklamar A war party of six humans wearing Githyanki badges on their armor descends on the party, drawing swords and coming out of the rocks and trees on both sides of the trail--3 on each side. Their weaponry is Kingdom, and the party can see the symbol of Thedrickstand Keep on their breastplates, but the cote of arms has been scratched out and covered by Githyanki runes. Bibi looks at the arrow which has impaled her arm between the wrist and elbow. Blood flows freely from the wound, and fear mixes with the extreme pain of the wound. Her head starts to swim, and anger starts to build up in her. She feels a growl escape her throat. The world is beginning to turn black, like she is about to pass out. But she knows what the feeling really means. Bibi leaps from her horse yelling a command for it to retreat. As soon as she hits the ground she breaks into a full run towards the men that fired at her, trying to but as much distance between herself and the party. "IT seems these oafs are either traitors, or suffering from the same curse as your brother Bronk. Either way I have a cure for what ails them," Blade says as he draws his swords and awaits for them to draw near enough to attack. Mog halts his horse and begins to cast a paralysis spell at the men charging from the party's right side. He will then Command another one of the attackers to "sleep." Humphrey sends a web spell at three of the approaching bandits. He aims at the ones opposite those which Mog targets. Ghotu sees the Kingdom symbols on the men's armor and realizes they must be under the same influence as Bardock. He hopes the men can be subdued, so that they needn't be killed. They are innocent. He hopes Bardock will give up some of his salve to the men. "Try to subdue them, they are Kingdom soldiers," Ghotu says as the men charge. Bibi, hearing Ghotu, hesitates for just a moment but decides that turning back now would only make matters worse. (Continuation of the scene...) Mog chants loudly in his guttural speech, pointing a clawed finger at the three fighters charging from the right of the party. All three suddenly fall to the ground and lay still. Humphrey's Web spell explodes from his staff and sprays the three fighters on the company's left side, immobilizing them but not silencing them. They yell and struggle. Ghotu and Blade quickly subdue them without killing them, banging them on their heads with the flats of their weapons. Ghotu says, "Bardock, do you have enough of your salve that we can free these men from--" But the fighter is cut short by another scream, this one less human. The company turns and sees Bibi fall to the ground. At first they think it is from the pain of the arrow that has impaled her right forearm, but they quickly learn that is not the real problem. Bibi is wracked with pain, a familiar agony that she has been lucky enough to avoid for nearly two months, having missed the last full moon (just after the company left Snurre's hall via the Astral Plane-- see Turns 35 and 36 at http://eternalwarriors.freeservers.com/turn35.htm). But now, having been suppressed for too long, the animal in her is released with twice the normal fury. Like she is about to vomit her humanity, Bibi lurches onto all fours and cries out again. First the straps on her armor split as her chest expands. She writhes on the ground as the horrified party watches, unable to help. Her cries become more animal-like as her transformation quickly culminates. Soon, dark fur colors her entire body, and she tears free of her remaining garments. While still half-human, she bites the arrow in her arm, tearing it free with a savage snarl. Soon a long black tail grows from her rear, and her ears grow pointed. Yellow slitted eyes survey the party. A massive panther stands before them, at least five feet tall at the shoulders. Steaming saliva drips from its fanged maw. The panther springs on Humphrey where he sits on his horse, claws extended to eviscerate the aged mage. Humphrey's eyes, already wide with curiosity, as he witnesses the child transform into the dangerous beast, reacts quickly to her attack. "kinesistela," he says, and lifts himself straight up into the air above her, as she springs for him. [He casts telekinesis with his staff, hoping to avoid her attack and to spare her certain death if he were to attack using some other, more powerful spell. His staff goes off in one segment.] [Keith, why don't you just assassinate her now. Hey, she is a panther, it is a perfect opportunity.] [Here is the situation: Ghotu and Blade are on foot because they subdued the fighters, everyone else is still on their horses. State your actions. I will roll initiative to see who goes off first. Everyone will get a separate initiative roll.] Ghotu lunges at her throat. Trying to remove the necklace and stop her attack on Humphry. He also hopes that this will cause her to return to her former self. Bronk yells out "Bardock ....we must tackle her and hold her down at whatever cost to us!!!" Bardock nods and moves with Bronk to tackle the panther/Bibi. [Rob, I take it that you will try to tackle the panther and subdue it without weapons. If this is not right, let me know.] Blade pulls one of the silver daggers he had purchased earlier for just this occasion. He holds his action waiting to see if th eothers can stop Bibi without causing her harm. He very muched hoped they could, but his fondness for Bibi would not stop him from putting her down like a wild animal if she couldn't be controlled. If worse came to worse, at least her curse would be over with...along with her life.
