Turn Ninety-Seven
Brief Recap: Last turn, Dunore was destroyed, and several players decided they did not like their characters. So apparently we started a new storyine... "It All Started At The Bar..." Louie lies in a ditch. His head aches awfully from a hangover, and he can't exactly remember the previous night. It is spring, and the morning air is cold. A light rain falls, and Louie realizes he is lying in an inch of water as the ditch fills. He pulls himself out and lies on his stomach, hoping the sun will dry him before he catches cold. He is on the outskirts of Pastille, just outside the walls. He tries to remember the previous night, and a hazy memory returns of an old man speaking to him. He can't remember what the old man wanted, but a flash of insight causes him to shove a hand in his pocket, pulling out a wad of paper. Flattening the parchment on his knee, the thief reads it: "The Gracious Whale" Louie recognizes it as the name of a brothel in Pastille on the north side of town. He has a vague idea that the old man was offering some kind of deal to Louie, and Louie could use a good deal right now. He has no more copper pennies in his purse, not even a haypenny. He stands and stretches, tasting his own bad breath. Adjusting his wet pants, he moves into the city. Once inside, he lifts a fat man's purse as the man haggles with a hawker of meatpies. With the silver coins he finds, Louie buys himself a steam bath and a change of pants. Then he eats a breakfast of fish baked in mud bought from a fishmonger near the docks. Finally, he buys a flask of whiskey and nurses it until evening, when he remembers he was to meet the old man. He even remembers the geezer's name now: Ebenezer something-or-other. Meanwhile... Sam reaches the city at noon, having camped outside it the night before. He'd arrived late to the outskirts, after the gates were closed for the night. Now he enters, nodding to the watchmen who stand to either side of the portcullis. They pay him little notice, just another trader or trapper from the wilderness. Sam heads to the Gracious Whale, and once inside he buys himself an ale and a bowl of thick stew which he sops up with a hard roll. Long before their determined meeting time, Sam sees Ebenezer enter the common room. Sam hasn't seen his old drinking companion for many years, but he easily recognizes him. Ebenezer is not surprised to see Sam there and heads straight over. "I didn't think the bugbears had skinned you yet. It's good to see you Sam. You got my letter it seems." "Yes. The bugbears learned long ago to leave me be.. as did the Kaliph's assasin's. Now that Jasmine as gone to her great reward, I have nothing to keep me milling about the homestead. My days as a mountain guide are over, and I am returning to the life of an adventurer. there is still some life left in this old bastard. " says Timberline Sam. Meanwhile, across the bar... "Honey, why don't you go and ask that man if his name is Ebenezer, for ole' Louie?" "Why don't you do it yourself you cheap bastard! The attractive young whore deftly avoids the theif's grasp, a a wry smile across her lips." "Come on darlin' you know I love you. I just need this one little favor." Louie lays a silver coin on the table, his hand rest lazily across it. Honey moves to accept the coin. "You still owe me from last night." A blank look crosses the man's face as he tries to recall the previous evening. A dark-haired sixteen year old girl walks up to Ebenezer and Sam Timberline, her curves obfuscating her young age. "Which one of you geezer's is Ebenezer? My boyfriend over their apparently can't remember." Ebenezer looks toward the bar where Louie sits and recognizes his "light touch" man. "Over here," he calls. If Louie can't remember what Ebenezer looks like, then he was drunker last night than he looked. Ebenezer makes a mental note that the thief doesn't show his drunkenness. To Sam he says, "That's Louie 'the Mouth', who'll be part of the company I'm forming. He's a vagrant and a liar. Should work out nicely." Ebenezer looks back to Louie to see if he is coming to the table. "I also bring an excellent set of ears and a beautiful smile to the group." Louie's permanent smile seems to smile at the two of them. "Honey, bring us each a flagon of your best ale, on the house!" Louie slaps Honey on the ass, as she squeals and darts away. "Louie the Mouth, my friends call me and me enemies too, for that matter. We met last night, but I couldn't remember your face. Too many dragon teeth shots." He holds out his hand to Sam, a horse salesman's sort of glimmer crossing his face. "Always lookin' for an honest days work." "We're still waiting for two more. They should be here soon. Now, gentlemen, I still don't have a name for the company. Any suggestions?" " It makes no differnce to me one way or another," says Timberline Sam "How about the mouthpieces?" Louie laughs. "Honey, where's that ale!" After a couple of minutes she comes over, sits on his lap and sits a mug of ale in front of him. She leans over and kisses his cheek. "Azrek's been askin' about you baby. He says you owe him money and he intends to collect." Sam and Ebenezer hear her whisper. She gets up, smiles a geniune smile of affection toward him and flits away, her attentions focused on a couple of guardsmen that just entered the Inn, looking off duty. "She's a sweet whore." Louie says, watching the burly Sam stare at her ass as she walks away. "A whore, but a sweet one. I take care of her when I'm not lying in a ditch somewhere." "And I'm sure someone else takes care of her when you are lying in that ditch. " says Sam knowingly. "My name is Timberline Sam, I've won and lost many fortunes, fought in many wars, killed many men, and loved more deeply than a kid like you could possibly understand. Pleasure to meet you. " he says offering his hand. Ebenezer grins at Sam's comments, then sees two more people enter the bar, though they don't appear to be traveling together. However, both of them see Ebenezer and head toward the table. One is a large man, obviously a fighter, dressed in heavy armor and carrying many weapons. As he walks across the bar, his spurs ring on the floor. "Good to see you Ebenezer," says the fighter. Ebenezer stands and they grip hands. Ebenezer introduces him to the party: "This is Theseus, from Trajia. He was a horseman in their legion until he got his commission, now he's part of our company." Theseus greets Louie and Sam. "Trajia, eh? I hear strange things are happening there? Anyhow, Louie's my name. Let me get you a drink. Honey!" He holds out his hand after he yells for the whore. Ebenezer then greets the other person who entered. She is ^$#^%$ a average built blonde women probably in her late twenties or early thirties. She wears a very light weight white cloak with gold threading adorning the hood. She speaks to Ebenezer "Hello, I am &$%^$... (some other name) told me that you company might be seek ing someone with my skills." As the others look at her they immediately notice her Eyes. They are almost freakistly large and very dark in contrast to her complexion. "My god woman!" Louie says. "You have beautiful eyes!" He smiles at himself. [Anne, please introduce and describe your character here--what she wears, how she looks, etc. She has had contact with Ebenezer before, and she agreed to join his adventuring company. This is the first time she's seen the others.] [Please post anything you want--previous things like his journey to the bar, conversation, equipment he bought in town, whatever you want.
