Turn Eighty-Six
Brief Recap: Last turn, Blade fled the ship and swam to shore, and Fyona got Thugga the gargoyle to carry her back to shore. Sylphie teleports Bruce and herself to shore 30 ft. north of the company, while Bibi and Mog fly to shore, landing beside Ghotu, Blade, Fyona, and the rest of the company. Blade asked for a sword, which Gayrlana provided... Blade and Bruce When Mog lands and transforms back into his orc form, Ghotu asks, "What happened? Was Bruce dancing?" Mog answers, "Yes, he sang a song and asked Blade to bury the hatchet between them. Mog does not think Blade agrees." Bruce and Sylphie appear at the dock (via teleport), about 30 feet away from where Blade talks to Ghotu, Gayrlana, and Fyona. Bibi and Mog stand beside them. Gayrlana presents Blade with one of her mercenaries' long swords, smiling grimly at her ex-lover. "Don't get yourself killed," she says to him smiling. Blade can't tell if she is being sarcastic or not. "I wouldn't think of it my dear." he says with a slight bow of gratutude. "Now if you'll excuse me I have a some unfinished business to attend to."Blade dashes towards Bruce with sword at the ready. "Let's see how well you do now taht I'm not poisoned, drugged or locked in a cage." [I will use both of my attacks this round on Bruce. My abilities are as follows AC is 1 (base 10 minus dex bonus(-4) and duelist bonus vs HTH weapons(-5) My damage mods are +2/+2 for strength, +3/+3 for duelist bonus vs. HTH weapon, and +3 damage for fighter bonus for a granf total of +5 "to hit" and +8 to damage. I also have teh ability to Parry the death blow. Based on your former ruling concerning swords of shapness, I am assumoing that this ability will not work against vorpal attacks either. Though I still disagree with this. Here is a proposed compromise. If the vorpal activates it's special abilities (chopping off head), then the duelist still gets a save vs. death, however his saving throw is modified by the magical bonus of the vorpal. This coud even apply to swords of sharpness if they rolled well enough for decapitation. If the save is made, the duelist saves his head but still takes double damage.] Bruce throws down his weapon and says "if you kill me, you will kill an unarmed man and again refuse to accept responsibility for that part which was yours. I am done with this now!" "So you are. " says Blade continuing his charge. "Your life was forfeit the moment you dropped me into the sea in a iron cage to drown. At least I give you the honor of dying in combat. If you choose to throw away this honor it makes no difference to me. It's obvious you are quite insane and I would be justified in performing a mercy kill to cure you of your lunacy. Who knows? you might set your wife on fire, then vow murderous revenge against someone else for it. Better I kill you now before your deranged thoughts can bring others to harm." Ghotu frowns at this, shaking his head, and moves a few steps after Blade, unwrapping his net and saying nothing. Mog readies his bola, moving slightly to his left to get a line of sight on Bruce and Blade. Bibi starts to go after Blade when she hears Fyona and decides that she might better hand this. Fyona shouts as she grabs her sword from her mother and goes after Blade. "Blade, don't do this. If he won't fight then he must clear our names." Blade continues towards Bruce, shouting his reply to Fyona. "Feh. Do youknow how many places Bronk and I are wanted in? If you plan on continuing to travel with me you best get used to it. Besides, I never liked Pastille anyway."[Is that the right city, if not please correct] Fyona continues after him. "That maybe all right for you but I would prefer to have my name cleared and if you kill him that will not happen. So I would suggest you face me first since I do have a weapon drawn" "Bruce cannot clear your name. The King knows that Bruce is a former assocuate of mine and would have no reaon to belive him any more than us. A guard was killed in Pastille, that fact cannot be changed. Unless, of course, you trust this lunatic well enough to lie for us. Personally I trust him to lie, but not for us. Only to save his own skin so that he can continue his attacks at a later date." Blade reaches Bruce, prepares to sidesteps behind him and stab him in the back. "This is all the honor you deserve, my "friend." Fyona leaps at Blade trying to disarm him. When Blade gets to Bruce, Ghotu leaps toward him and flings his net, trying to catch Blade in it and bring him to the ground. At the same time, Mog lets loose his bola at Blade's sword arm, hoping to divert the deathblow. [Brian, I assume Bruce got his axe after Bibi released her spell, but in the future you should specify.] [I will post a battlemap tonight, but the situation is thus: Blade and the group he is with are separated from Bruce/Sylphie by 30 feet of flat ground. Bruce is to the north of Blade, so the sea is to Bruce's right, Blade's left, as they face one another.] Humphrey The trip across the channel by boat is a rough one. A rainstorm comes down when the ship is halfway across, and does not let up until they are across. Humphrey is thankful that the rains are no longer following him, as they did for weeks after he commanded the sky against the slavers. The other passengers on board do not speak to Humphrey--they must sense the foulness in him, he suspects. The child is particularly frightened of Humphrey, and her parents keep her away from sight as much as possible. When the ship arrives in port on the mainland city of Calass, the passengers go on deck to disembark. To his dread, Humphrey sees ten Protectors on the dock, fully armed, watching the ship. One mage also stands with them, whom Humphrey does not recognize. The ship is moored, roped to the dock. The captain extends the gang plank and moves down to talk to the Protectors and the mage. Humphrey cannot hear what they are saying. After they speak for a moment, the captain returns to the ship. The Protectors remain where they are. They watch the ship closely and the water surrounding the ship and the air above the ship. The monk walks up from down below and stands beside the wizard looking fella and says, "Hmmm....This ought to be interesting shouldn't it my friend?" Then turns his head and smiles at the wizard. He then looks back at the "Protectors" and says, "Hello my friends....can you help me please?" The mage walks half way across the gang plank and addresses everyone on the ship, ignoring the monk's question, saying, "I am Falun of the Guild, and we are here searching for a renagade mage named Humphrey Beauregard. He is a foul wizard in league with the Magocracy, and we have word he took ship to the continent. Captain," he says to the captain of the ship, who stands on deck, "May we board and search the ship? I have letters from the guildmaster, signed by your Oligarch Council." Falun holds a scroll for all to see. The captain says, "Of course, master Falun." The sailors begin to move away from the gang plank to allow the mage and several of the Protectors to board.
