Brief Recap: Last turn the company journeyed long and ended up in Galay, Home of the Mages Guild. They were about to depart when they were accosted by a mage named Thaddius and his thugs...

Ambushed!

Bladeseizes the brief distraction caused by Fyona's arrival and tries to flip his dagger at Thaddius. But the blade clings to the sleeve of his new shirt. He had only practiced the movement a couple of times in his new threads, and now he regrets it. The blade is off center in his palm when he finally gets ahold of it. His movement begins the melee, and several people move at once.

Thaddius, who was apparently not distracted by Fyona at all, raises his right hand, palm forward to Blade, and says, "Come with me peacefully, Blade." The words are heavy with power, and they echo in the morning air.

Blade's head swims as he listens to the mage's words. He feels an incredibly strong compulsion to follow the command.

But he pulls his mind free at the last moment, groaning with the effort.

At that same instant, one of the crossbowmen fires his weapon at Humphrey. The bolt zips past the mage's head within two inches.

As the crossbowmen to the rear turn to look at Fyona, Ghotu whips his net off and steps toward them. He flings the magic mesh out at one of them as the crossbowman turns to fire at the party.

The net envelops the fighter, and his weapon discharges harmlessly into the ground. Ghotu pulls him forward, and the fighter falls from his feet, entangled in the net.

Bardock draws his dagger and throws it at one of the rearward crossbowmen, the blade glancing off the fighter's chain mail armor. [Bardock did 6 damage.]

Bronk, who had been hoping to confuse their enemies with banter, charges one of the rearward crossbowmen with his halberd. The man sees the giant Rasheman coming and fumbles with his crossbow for an instant too long. Though he tries to sidestep, Bronk's blade hacks him in the right leg. [Bronk does 25 damage.] The man falls, trying to aim his crossbow as he does. The bolt instead shoots straight into the air.

Another crossbowman at the front of the combat fires at Humphrey. This one strikes the old man in the leg, passing straight through the flesh of his thigh. [Humphrey takes 13 damage, down to 22/35.]

Mog points his rod at one of the mages (the one to the party's left), and casts a spell. A jet of light shoots from the rod toward the mage, and his bones flash briefly like they are suddenly illuminated. He gags in the midst of his spell and slumps forward, falling from the balcony. His body thuds sickeningly on the snow-covered sidewalk below.

One more crossbowman has his weapon trained on Humphrey, and Bibi casts her Warpwood spell at him. Just as the man fires, the loaded bolt curls and the arms of his crossbow twist like they are being tortured. The bolt misfires, careening off the balcony to the party's right and nearly hitting the mage there, who is himself just finishing a spell.

Bibi is the target. She feels a force trying to paralyze her arms and legs, but the force does not have her. She resists and steps aside as if to avoid the Hold spell. As quickly as it appeared the force is gone.

One of the rearward crossbowmen fires his weapon at Bardock. But the shot is deflected by a rapier which knocks the point of the crossbow upward. Fyona confronts the fighter in a guard position, drawing her main gauche with her left hand. The man throws the crossbow at her and draws his longsword, at the same limbering his shield.

'Ching' is heard as the retracted sword-breakers are released from within Fyona's main gauche.

Blade had noticed something familiar about Fyona when they initially encountered her. Seeing her in action now, he is certain that she was trained by his old flame Gayrlana, the Lady Bloodsword.

Blade finally gets a grip on his dagger, and flings it at the man who just about took over his mind--Thaddius. But Thaddius ducks under the thrown dagger, removing a wand from his robes.

In that instand, as Thaddius prepares to use his wand on Blade, a lightning bold from the wounded Humphrey's staff electrocutes Thaddius. [Humphrey does 33 damage, but Thaddius saved for 17 damage.] The shocked mage staggers under the force of the bolt, but does not fall. He glares at Humphrey, smoke coming from his mouth as he says, "Kill that damn mage!"

After standing, the others hear, "omfra neoa, akema anyma!" and [1-4 (I don't have a die)] mirror images of Humphrey pop into existence." In response to Thaddius' comments regarding killing him, Humphrey replies, "You don't want to do that Thaddius. I am your friend," as he twists a skeletal finger resting around his neck, releasing a charm person spell aimed at Thaddius. If the spell works, then he asks Thaddius to protect him, as he is injured. If the spell fails he prepares to cast hold person at the mage. If the spell succeeds, he aims another lightning bolt at one of the remaining magi or crossbowmen, in that order.

Nothing pisses Blade off more than magic users trying to control his mind. He draws his longsword (giant slayer) and short sowrd and charges towards Tahddius. He plans to first chop off his hand that holds the wand, then his head.

[If Thadius is already killed by someone else , then Blade will attck one of the other magic users, assuming they are within HTH range. ]

Despite Bibi's distrust of Humphrey this threat infuriates her. She sneers in reply "your charm has worn thin" as she begins to call lightening (if conditions exist) aimed at Thaddius.

Bronk decides to start singing as he swings his halberd down upon the Crossbowmans head.(if he kills the crossbowman i'd like to use my other attack this round to move towards another to be able to strike at him next round...I will spend a plot point if needed).

Fyona had thought she had just come upon a bit of a disagreement. But, it is clear to her now, as she sizes up her opponent whom has just drawn his weapon, that this must be serious to someone. To her it is another opportunity to sharpen her skills and hopefully show off for her new friends. She intend to bring a quick death to this man and move onto the next.

[DM NOTE: No plot point needed to do that, there is another crossbowman right next to him--the one Fyona attacked. The other rearward xbowman is in Ghotu's net.]

[DM NOTE: Anne, the conditions are acceptable for call lightning. Also, I should have posted that the fighters with crossbows are dropping them and drawing their melee weapons. They have longswords, shields, and chain armor.]
