Midgard Serpent

Turn Thirty-Nine

Brief Recap:Last turn saw Bardock healed by Oorialith, and Bronk learned the mark can't be removed without killing the one who put it there. Bronk was given a salve that must be applied twice a day to keep Bardock sane. Bronk and Bardock vow to find their sister or kill every Gith in the attempt.

Egmund is allowed to keep the Wizarding Stone to study and use in his Time Traveling Machine, if he can. The party resupplied in Galay and departed to the north, where they intend to warn King Ozrik of their failure and the awful threat the Northern Kingdom now faces.

Also, Humphrey revealed the fact that there is a prophecy which he and Egmund believe speaks of the times currently at hand. Humphrey believes Bibi is the Chosen One of the Prophecy.

Ship Galay and the Guild of Magic

TWO weeks have passed since the party left Galay, on their journey to the Northern Kingdom. They took a ship across the vast bay separating the island on which Galay stands and the mainland. They avoided the lands of the Magocracy, for none can freely enter or leave that place.

The weather is turning cold, and winds sprayed them with cold sea water as they crossed to the mainland.

Their ship landed on the coast near the Free City of Portsmith. They did not enter the city proper, but continued their urgent journey as fast as they could.

The one who followed them did, however, enter that city. He had to report to the man who paid him for the task he was performing. His journey to the deep south, where the company had mysteriously reappeared after their journey to the Top of the Wurld, had been dangerous indeed. Teleporting that distance is always dangerous. But he was able to home in on one of the magic items possessed by the party, an item they still carried. He could find them again, if he lost them.

The company journeyed north from Portsmith, across unpopulated terrain barren of even trade routes. This was best, as it saved them time and made it less likely they would run into any kind of trouble. Bandits were usually only encountered near the trade routes, far to the east across the river, not in the vast stretches of wilderness they passed through. Indeed, they made their way in two weeks (excellent time) to the southern reaches of the Northern Kingdom. The weather turned noticeably colder as they traveled north, and it snowed most of the second week of their travel.

The great inner sea, upon whose eastern shore Heklamar stood, finally came into view. They followed it until the city itself, perched high on a rocky plateau, was visible.

The company now stands on a rocky bluff, which they climbed in order to survey the lands between themselves and Heklamar through eyes watering from the freezing wind. Beneath the city, in the surrounding plains, is a great host. It is evening, and at least a thousand campfires burn beneath the city's perch. By their disbursement, Ghotu can tell that they are not Heklamar's army.

"You see how they are arranged? They prepare to attack, not to defend or depart. Those are not the King's troops beneath the city. They are a siege force," says the fighter.

The company decides to move closer to survey the area and decide on how to make their way into the castle. The city of Heklamar stis atop a high plateau of stone. A single wide road gives access to the city walls from the west in a snaking pattern which leaves attackers within range of ballistae and bows as they approach. The other sides of the city are either sheer cliff or back into the mountainside itself, which towers several hundred feet above.

Blade and Bibi walk together ahead of the others wrapped in their cloaks. Humphrey follows them, with Mog and Ghotu behind him. Bronk and Bardock bring up the rear, whispering to each other occasionally, unbothered by the cold. They lead their mounts back down off the bluff and circle around, trying to remain hidden as much as possible as they move nearer the city.

After a few minutes, they pass between two small hills and into a clump of pine trees. They gather at the other side still within the trees and scan the open area ahead. The ground is rocky and level before them for a great distance, with a light covering of silvery snow.

The company mounts up prepares to cross the field to a ravine that will take them under cover much closer to the southern cliff face of the plateau on which sits the city.

Then they hear a shriek from above, and with a loud swoosh a wyvern passes directly over them heading toward the city. It wheels in the air and heads back toward the party, shrieking loudly in alarm. To their surprise, the company members see a rider atop the wyvern, moonlight glinting off a spear held in one of its hands. It raises a horn with the other and blasts a loud shrill blast, then takes aim with its spear at the party, who is still just at the edge of the trees.

In the distance, ahead of the party, they hear and see a group of three githyanki knights approaching.

Blade pulls the hood of his cloak over his head and vanishes from sight. He says to Bibi. " Stand here where they can see you, I'll be slightly ahead of you. When they approach to attack you I'll take them by surprise. If you've got ant comabat magic that can be cast as they approach that would be delightful...if not..then enjoy the show. Better yet. Do something about that flying lizard. Can't you control animals or something? "

[Blade intends to remain still so to remain invisible, then backstab (bonus) whichever one first passes him. Assuming the backstabbed, Gith lives, then I'll continue to attack him until he is dead. , If he dies then I'll attack another one. I'll be using the draginslayer sword. Any bonuses against wyverns with that? I'm sure they are a distant cousin of dragons. Also is Heklamar tha capital city? Is that where where the King is?

bibi, hit the wyvern w lightning im going to javelinize the group on the ground .Ghotu will go into melee with whichever group gets to our position first. bronk if that wyvern ever gets in range of my net im goin to try to bring it down hard i could use your help. Bibi look in the sky for the lizard and for any sign of clouds. She cast hold animal once she has spotted the creature or creatures. If she is able she will prepare to cast call lightening as soon as the attackers are with in sight.

Humphrey casts web at the approaching Wyvern, hoping to bring it down. No matter if it brings the beast to the ground or not, he casts lightning bolt on it as well, --both from his staff.

Bronk readies his halberd and tells Bardock to get ready. The Two Brothers will stand side by side in defeating the Gith. "Bardock...let's try to take one of the leaders prisoner....maybe it can tell us more about our sisters whereabouts and who put the marking on you."
