Turn Three

Act I: The Steading of the Hill Giant Chief

(continued)

Brief Recap (turn 2): The adventurers arrive at the hill giant fort and approach at dusk. There are two sleeping guards at the entrance which they dispatch silently before proceeding deper into the complex. They pass from the entrance foyer into a long hallway leading to a great hall with a fire pit. There they encounter to their right a cloud giant holding a huge mace and a "manwich," and to their left two hill giant females about to murder an orc slave who spilled something.

Scene IV: Battle in the Great Hall

Ghotu lowers his axe to the stone floor and quickly reaches over his shoulder and draws a javelin from the quiver strapped to his baldric. Before the cloud giant realizes the danger, Ghotu chucks a javelin at him.

Battle Map     Bruce charges the cloud giant with his great axe held before him, taking a mighty swipe at the giant's right leg. The giant carries a mace that is easily ten feet long, made from the carved trunk of a red oak tree and apparently shod and bound with iron. The handle is black with use. This cloud giant is over eighteen feet tall, towering over even the hill giants, who average just over eleven feet.

Since the cloud giant is beset by both Ghotu and Bruce, Blade moves to prevent the female giants from flanking the two fighters. They brandish a knife (actually a cutlass with an extended handle) and a skillet respectively and are wearing wool clothing and aprons.

Combat Results

Ghotu's javelin strikes the cloud giant in the shoulder, causing it to drop its manwich to the floor. A severed arm rolls out from between the slices of bread each of which is about the size of a pillow. It brushes the spear away and raises its club as Bruce arrives, swinging his axe at the giant's right knee and using his momentum, getting his full body weight behind the blow. The creature grunts as a deep gash is opened as the great axe slices through the boiled leather and fur of its garments. The giant swings its nine foot club at Bruce, missing.

Ghotu lifts his axe from the floor with his foot and charges the giant. Bruce, now nearly on the opposite side of the 18 foot tall behemoth, swings his axe at the same leg from behind, his vorpal axe biting deep into the hamstring. The giant falls to one knee, raising its mace as Ghotu arrives but missing its second swing. Ghotu buries his axe in the beasts chest. Bruce finishes it off reaching high with a swing to clip it's spine at the shoulders. The head still attached but flopping to one side, the cloud giant finally topples, blood spurting from four massive axewounds.

Blade leaps upon the short stone wall surrounding the fire pit, in which he briefly glimpses what appears to be humanoid skulls and other bones charred within the still glowing embers. The two female hill giants move toward him and he stabs the first in the shoulder to halt her charge. She gasps as the blade pierces her clothing, and swings her giant knife at him. He adroitly sidesteps, dancing along the top of the wall away from the other giantess. He then lunges back at the first giantess, stabbing her knife hand causing her to drop her weapon, then flipping his blade up to slash her throat (which is still two feet above his head) as he moves in. Gurgling, she falls to the floor clutching her neck with her good hand. The other giantess takes a step back from Blade.

The adventurers hear Mog shout and a javelin clatters against the northwestern wall from the orc, missing its target--two drunk hill giants have just entered the room, one still bearing a horn of ale. They see you all and move to attack, one heading toward either side of the fire pit. They yell at the female, "Round up help! We'll take care o' these 'ere!"
