Guardians1.0

Captain Marvel felt the usual nervousness of being in th e Danger room,
especially with the Unknown Soldier ruunning the exercise, he was a
harsh taskmaster who demanded nothing but the best from the members of
the Guardians.

He was broken from his reverie by the sight of three miniature SAM
missiles headed his way. His job was to evade them and rescue the dummy
hostage being held prisoner by two robot drones on the far side of the
room {appproximately 100 yds). The drones were armed with autofire
laser weapons. Powerful enough to do damage, even to him.

"Get yer head out of yer ass and do somehthing before those missiles
blast your fancy flying ass out of the sky!!!" Came the eloquent
directions of The Unknown Soldier over the loud speaker.

The man was right he has to do something and quick.

[Your move hero]

"Hey, I thought Ice was supposed to be in this one too," thinks Cap'n M. He
then flies straight up to gain some altitude and maneuvering room. The drones
don't seem to be opening fire just yet, but Cap'n doesn't take any chances. As
the SAMs change direction, swooping up toward him, he does a back flip and
flies back straight down to the floor, hoping to get underneath and behind them
(sort of a loop-de-loop).

1a) If he gets behind them, he will try to disable the thrusters on a SAM by
grabbing/crushing or punching it near the bottom.

1b) If he can't get that close, or if they change direction too quickly and are
going to hit him, he dodges.

2a) If he disables a SAM (1a), he tries to tail another missile, with the
intent of doing the same to all three.

2b) If he can't get behind a missile, he will try to get between them so they
are headed toward each other. Then, at the last moment, he will move, hoping
they crash together.

3a) If he is fast enough to chase and catch teh missiles, he does this to all
three.

3b) If he succeeded in 2b), and the missiles are all gone, he flies in toward
the drones low and fast, moving to teh left and right to avoid laser fire.

3c) If the drones fire on him while he is sitll dealing with themissiles, he
tries to position the missiles between himself and teh drones!

[Keith, can you give me a refresher on his abilities? does he have heat vision?
anything besides great strength, dex, flying, invulnerability? not that he
needs more...]

Cap does a loop de loop and comes up underneath one of the SAMs. He
grabs hold of it's thrusters and crushes it together with his hands.
The missile spins wildly out of control and explodes upon impact against
the Danger Room wall.

"Nice one kid, but don't get cocky, you ain't out of the woods yet "
says the Soldier. As if to confirm this the robot drones open fire with
their auto lasers.

Cap immediately takes evasive flight maneuvers. He has to divide his
attention between the laser fire and the remaining two missiles. It is
too much to take in at once and Cap is blasted by one of the lasers. It
nails him right above the eye. Stings more than anything. Like getting
hit with a golf ball.

He fights to m maintain his concentration just as another of the SAMs
is about to make contact with him. He does a sideways tumbling move in
the air that places him on the other side of the missile. One of the
lasers that was headed his way punctures the side of the missile and it
explodes as well. The explosion buffets him off course a little, and he
is smacked in the ass by another laser.

"Pay attention goddamit!!! You pull this crap in the field and somebody
will get killed." barks the Soldier.

Cursing under his breath, Cap maneuvers behind this last missile and
manages to crush out it's thrusters as well,immobilizing it.

With the SAMS gone all he had left to do was take out the drones and
rescue the hostage.

AS he looks towards the drones, one of them begins shooting at him again
while the other places it's blaster firmly against the side of the
prisoner's head. "Surrender or the hostage dies" it says in a
mechanical voice.

[a hostage situation .Everyone's favorite.]

[REfresher on Cap's abilities: Well he has gone through so many
different incarnations it is hard to say.

I know the inspiration for him came from Superman the Animatedseries so
let's shoot for about hthat power level. They have wqatered downSupes'
power levels in the cartoon to a reasonable level.

Heat vision? Maybe.

In an effort to not make him such an obvious Superman clone I suggest
the following .{note that this has been suggested as the source of
supeman's powers as well -it just isn't very well known}

We can say that all of his powerrs are based on a limited kind of
telkinesis. He can only use it upon himself(flight,
superleap,superseed,etc) and things that he is touching or that touch
him (Superstrength, invulnerabiity)

If you really really want heat vision we could modify it and say it
isn't heat but concussive TK force(like Cyclops) that he can project, or
if you wanted the heat angle we could still tie that in o TK, by saying
that he is able to telekinetically excite the molecules of objects
causing them to heat up.

I like the TK idea, do you?
Let me know. We also need to decide on a permaneent background on him.
Lets try to ake him somethng original. I don't mind that you want to
emulate supes' powers and abilities and/or even his modus operandi, but
lets make his origin and background something competely different.

If you go with the TK based poweres I have somr suggestions for Powr
sources.]

[The TK idea sounds good to me. I will work on a background. I will assume he
has the "heatvision" because it will be useful in this situation...]

Captain Marvel:
1a) flies in low, avoiding the laserfire, and tries to melt the laser of the
drone that is aimed at the hostage.

2a) if he succeeds in melting the laser, he goes straight in, ready for the
other drone to aim at the hostage. if it does, he melts its barrel too. if not
(menaing it keeps shooting at him), he flies straight at it and will punch it.

2b) if he doesnt melt (i.e., misses) the first drone's laser (aimed at teh
hostage), he will say, "ok, you win. just dont hurt the hostage! ill do what
you say!" while he is saying this (stalling), he is taking careful aim at the
hostage holding drone with his heatvision, and trying to slowly move closer for
better chances. when he thinks he can hit the laser with his heatvision, he
does. If the other drone keeps shooting, he keeps trying to not get hit (but he
doesnt waste an action dodging if that is required).

Captain Marvel glares intently at the gun pointed at the hostages head.
His "heat vision" is invisible to th naked eye, but the gun itself
quickly begins to heat up. True to it's programming, the robot throws
the gun down as it reaches a temperature that would be harmful to a
human being.

The other robot, still armed, opens fire upon the Capt.
Cap had been expecting this and eaisly dodges the laser fire. He
propels himself throughthe air at his attacker and delivers a swift
right cross that send the robot into the wall behind it, where it
slumps down incapacitated.

The remaining robot, holds it's hands up above it's head and says in a
mechanical voice. "I surender. Now get me my lawyer.I know my rights."

The Unknow n Soldier can be heard laughing over the loudspeakr. "These
damn robots act more and more like real perps everyday. You had better
watch it Marvel or they will sic their civil rights lawyers on you. You
did alright except for getting blasted a few times, but that is why we
practice."

The Soldier is interrrupted by a distress signal coming into HQ. It is
from the NYPD and they are requesting backup, it seems thzat the OGRE
has escaped from Stronghold prison again and is on a rampage in Times
Square.

"That's your que, kid. Get after him. Don't get anybody killed and
watch the property damage. You ae the only Guardian availabl at the
moment, I'll send help if it becomes available [This means yoou Micah]."

Cap flies out of the Guardian HQ, dubbed the Guardian Garrison by the
media, and makes his way to times square.
Approaching from above, cap scans the area and quickly spots the OGRE.
OGRE is HUGE, standing close to 7 feet tall and muscles and veins
popping out everywhere.

"OGRE, WILL SMASH PUNY HUMANS!!! PUY HUMANS ALWAYS BOTHERING OGRE, ONLY
ONE WAY TO MAKE THEM STOP....SMASH THEM!!!," Ogre then picks up a
neraby VW bug [the new kind] and prepares to throw it at a group of
japanese tourists who are frantically taking pictures of the Ogre.
Everyone else has had the good sense to evacuate the area for the most
part.

Turn 1.1


Iceman was enjoying himself in the Park, using his powers to make it
snow in a small area so that the children could build snowmen.

He received the distress signal from Guardians HQ and radioed in that he
was on his way.

"Sorry kids, duty calls," he said to the youngsters. "Here is a
consolation prize"
Iceman again used his powers, but this time he created a giant snow
drift for the children to play in.

He then created an ice ramp and was on his way to Times Square to help
out his team mate Cpt. Marvel in subduing the super-strong menace known
as the OGRE.

[Micah let Pat post first, I am giving him a free round to respond,
since he got there first. We will say that you are in transit when Cpt.
Marvel first arrive on the scene.]

Captain Marvel [who does not wear a string bikini--except on wednesday nights
at quarter beer] sees the Japanese tourists in danger. He speaks into his
headset to Guardians HQ: "There are some tourists here, and their flashes are
really pissing Ogre off! Does he have some sensitivity to light? I'm going in!"
And with that, Captain Marvel:

1a) First priority is save the tourists. If they are in *immediate* danger, he
will fly to the most endangered one and protect them (for instance, if Ogre is
dropping a car on them, Cap will block the car. If Ogre is about to crush one
with his fist, Cap will snatch the civilian out of the way...)

1b) If they are not in immediate danger (Ogre is not attacking them), then Cap
intends to fly in, tell the tourists to leave the area immediately, and try to
talk to the Ogre. "Hey, why all the property damage? Where is our enemy? I see
no one attacking you, my friend. If there are enemies about, we shall smite
them together, as brother warriors. But let these puny civilians be. They can
cause us no harm. What do you say?"

2a) If 1a, after Cap saves all the civilians, he will then try to talk to Ogre
(unless such an act is obviously futile). If Ogre will not talk, Then Cap tries
to stall, saying to his headset, "Where is that backup? If I start in against
him, we'll tear downtown up!" Stalling means I catch any cars he throws at
buildings, people, etc.

2b) If 1b, and Ogre listens, Cap tries to keep him calm, and tells HQ: "He is
calming down. Tell that backup to stay out of sight for now, I don't want to
startle him or make him think I'm an enemy." If Ogre attacks anyway, Cap tries
to (in order of priority) protect civilians, limit property damage, defend
himself. Cap is waiting for backup before engaging him fully.

[Keith, I got an email from Micah saying he tried to post and had a problem. He
also said iceman flew up to a rooftop and surveyed the situation. i will wait
for Ice to post before i try to. can you reject posts on this board?]

need refresher on powers heads for rooftop to innitiate blindness darkness
fog maybe, on OGRE.if i can communicate with cappy i suggest, if OGRE asks
about the blindness, that he tell hin it is histerical and will subside if he
would only calm down. if I havent the power to affect his sight i must try to
encase him in ice.

Turn 1.2 & 1.3

Iceman, perched atop a nearby rooftop, unleashes a n icy fog around the
Ogre. Ogre is confused and begins to scream and swing his fists blinbly.
Cpt. Marvel, as per Iceman's suggestion over the comm-link [headset] ,
tells Ogre that he is hysterical and that he will e able to see if he
calms down.

Ogre jumps blinby in the direction of Cap's voice,and lands nearly a
block away,
freeing himself from the fog.

"STUPID CAPE-MAn TRY TO BLIND OGRE!!! OGRE SMAS!!!" [Ogre still hasn't
noticed the arrival of Iceman]

Ogre uproots a nearby light post with one hand and leaps into the air
straight at Cap. It iS clear that his intent is to use the lightpost as
a club and swat marvell with it.


[Micah, Icaman's abilities are an abiity to project Ice and Cold from
hiis hands-he can create many different things with the Ice.Ice
blasts,Ice slides, Ie wallls, etc. He can also lowr the temperature in
areaas. He is coverred in ice, which provides armor. Be creative, I am
not using Champions rules for this, so if you would like to try some
"stunt" with your power you willl be allowed to try-not lke Champs where
if you didn't pay points for it you couldmn;t do it.]


iceman tries to chill the lightpole to the extent of liquid nitrogen,(nudge
nudge wink wink).DOES THE FOG NOT FIXATE ON AN OBJECT? icee tries to remain
undetected, he thinks mindgames are in order.if he can he tries to completly
numb both legs, but only his legs (to whatever extent he can localize the
effect), with cold. or can he?

1a) If iceman ices over the light pole (presumably making it fairly brittle),
captain marvel will take this opportunity to smash ogre in the face with his
fist, ignoring the light pole attack (hero rules like a haymaker-whatever
advantage i can get from not having to worry about ogre's attack).

1b)If the light pole isnt iced over, captain marvel will do a normal attack on
ogre (keeping his defenses up, whatever).

2a) If 1a, and the blow appears to hurt ogre, then cap will follow up and
continue hand to hand combat with ogre ("normal" attacks). if the blow just
pisses him off, cap will fly up into the air, hoping ogre will jump for him,
and says over the comlink, "Ice, when he jumps, freeze him! We need to get him
out of this area so he doesnt destroy the block!"

2b) If 1b, and the normal attack hurts ogre, cap will stay in combat. if the
attack is futile, cap will fly into the air and do as in 2a.

if cappie goes hand tohand with ogre then icee will aid as he can if cappie
jumps and ogre after him i will attempt to encase ogre that is

As Ogre swings the lighppost at Cpt.Marvel, Iceman shoots a freezing
blast at it. Ogre connects with Cap and the lightpost shatters like
glass due to it's sub-zero temperature.

Cap had been counting on this and was ready and waiting with his best
right hook. Hs fist connects with Ogre's nose as he passs by through the
air. It is like hitting solid steel. There is no nticeable effect except
to make Ogre even angrier.

Ogre lands on the street below, making spiderweb-like cracks in the
concrete when he lands due to his massive weight.

"STUPID CAPE-MAN TRY TO HURT OGRE, BUT HE CAN"T!! OGRE IS THE STRONGEST
ONE THERE IS!!!"

Cap flies higher i n the sky, hoping to lure Ogre after him. Ogre
prepares to jump after him, but is stopped from doing so by the Iceman
who encases him in a block of ice from the neck down.

"AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!! OGRE REALLY MADE NOW!!!!" ves begin to pop
out even further from his head and corded muscles grow even larger as
the Ogre attempts to break free fom the ice.

[he is contained for now, but it doesn't look like it is going to last
very long. He is now also awae of Iceman's presence.]

Cap: (over com-link) "This doesn't look good, Ice. That was my best shot, and
he didn't even feel it! Soldier, does this guy have any vulnerabilities?"

Cap will hover in the air, low enough so that Ogre can reach him with a jump.
cap is waiting for this, and plans to move out of the way and try to catch Ogre
from behind or by the legs (after he breaks free and attacks). He plans to fly
him out of town or at least away from populated areas. Cap tells Ice this over
the com-link. If Ogre instead tries to escape, Cap will fly in behind him and
try to catch him with teh same plan.

Turn 1.4

[Alright I have decided to continue with the Guardian PBeM and get
Prowler involved. Bry and Pat, forget evertying that occured involving
FIST,Prowler, Pain and Gamut. It never happened. It was all just a
dream. Got it? Good.

I have also come up with some new stuff for the posting protocols
I'll try to get them posted to the webpage today. The two main things
are that you will be rewarded a PLOT POINT (different than an
experience poit) for each succesful post on time. These plot points can
be added to die rolls to increase your chances of accomplishing feats.
More on this later. The other thing is the three Strikes and you are
out rule. Basically it you fail to post on time three times in a row,
then your character becomes an NPC. 1st time, I remind you to post on
time and go ahead and post for you . 2nd time The player loses his
action for that round(he becomes preoccupied with picking the lint out
of his bellybutton) and suffers any effects good or ill that may occur
as a result of this. If I receive prior notice that you won't be able
to post due to real life respnsibilities(Yuck), then it won't count
against you.]

Ogre breaks free from the ice and and grabs a nearby bus full of people
and throws it at the annoying Flying man.

As Cap sees the bus speeding toward him he hears Iceman suggest tryig
to lure ogre to one of the river's surrounding Manhatten. They are
several miles away, but it might be worth a shot.

Meanwhile.....

Karlo was closing up is antique bookshop whe he hears the sound of
screams and mass destruction coming from the direction of Times Square.
He quickly dons his Prowler garb and sets out to investigate. He
reaches the perimeter of the Square just in time to see the infamous
Meta-villain known as the Ogre break out of a block of ice and launch a
busload of people at the Guardian known as Captain Marvel.The ice must
have been courtesy of Marvel's team-mate Iceman

[Prowler knows that Ogre is one of the strongest if not THE strongeat
metahumans in existence.He big and mean and ugly with an extremely low
IQ (sort of like Rob-I couldn't resist). Prowler can becom involved in
this fray this round if he so chooses. Pat and Micah, why don't you
describe what Iceman and Captain Marvel look like.]


[Brian: Captain Marvel is a flying guy in a blue jumpsuit with a cape. He is
basically superman, only not quite as super as in the comics. He wears a
facemask (for now).]

As the busload of citizens arcs toward Cap, he decides he should probably try
to catch it or something. So he flies so that he will be under it when it
lands, but still off hte ground. When it reaches him, he will cushion the fall
and try to set the bus down on its wheels. This asumes that he is not right
next to Ogre. If he is going to be near Ogre, he will catch the bus and try to
fly a short distance with it and set it down in a safe place--the lion or
gorilla pit in the zoo, the harbor--something like that.

After he has dealt with the bus, he says to Ice: "I might be able to lure Ogre
to the river. What do you have in mind? And Soldier, doesn't this guy hate the
color red or something? Anything?"

Then Cappy willfly right by Ogre, preferably from behind, and strike him, just
to piss him off. then he will start jumping like Ogre does toward teh river.
(he wants Ogre to follow him).

1. Prowler overhears this conversation above, and immediately sets out to
get Ogre's attention. He runs up close to Ogre, and stands laughing in
front of him. "HA HA HA HA HA! Is that all you've got, you big OGRE!!!"
He watches to see if Ogre responds to him.

2.a If he does, then Prowler takes off, at only a speed slightly faster
than Ogre, so that Ogre is lured in, and taunts him. Prowler heads toward
the river.

2b. If he does not hear him, Prowler then attempts to taunt him again.

3a. If 2a. works he continues to the river.
3b. If he fails to get Ogre's attention, Prowler attempts to get Captain
Marvel, and Iceman to talk with him (as best as is possible) so they can put
together a concerted effort.-- He does not taunt them into talking to him,
however.

what iceman wants to do is go to yhe river and make an entrance say 10 or 12
foot square 7 or 8 foot tall with entrance tunnel like sloping down into
the river is it?all the way to the bottom into another chamber say twice as
big with an exit so whomever leads him in to escape through then toseal both
holes if time will not permit this then when he gets in range i will start
encasing him with ice with an endless supply of water to work with ok?


1. Prowler, after spotting something buzzing around the head of Ogre,
rushes to an adjacent building, where--[you won't believe this]-- he does a
flying sidekick off the side of the building, and tries to hit the buzzing
object, in an attempt to knock it away from the brutes face. When he jumps,
he yells "Living La Vida LOCAAA!!!."

2a. If he misses, he attempts to set up the same scenario again.
2b. If he hits, he knocks it away![he hopes]
3a. If he misses, he attempts to repeat the sequence of events.


Turn 1.5

[I have signed on as a lurker- one who watches the game, but doesn't
post- in another PBeM game. It is cool. You guys should sign up too. We
have a lot to learn about this stuff. This is one of the ideas I stole
already, The weekly recap.]

Captain Marvel catches the busload of people and flies a few blocks away
and sets it down out of harm's way, he then makes his way back to the
fray [that's all you can do right now]

Prowler launches himself off of his vantage point and easily kicks the
insect sized mechanical device away from Ogre's vicinity. It smacks
against the street and doesn't return to the air. [ Pat and Micah , you
didn't miss anything. This was revealed to Bry in a secret message]

Iceman , seizes the oppurtunity presented by Prowler's surprise
appearance to blast Ogre again, hopefully encasing him for good this
time.

Ogre, encased in ice, begins laughing like a small child.
"Buzzing gone now. Ogre happy."
As he continues laughing, the ice he is encased in breaks apart due to
his body shaking from laughter. This causes Ogre to laugh even harder.

Ogre looks at the heroes and says, "Ogre sorry. He no more want toplay.
Ogre tired." With that he sits down in the midddle of the street
witha a large thud and immediately begins snoring.

The heroes look at each other, unsure of what to do

captain marvel wants to do several things. first, he wants to look at
what prowler knocked out of the air. second, goes up to prowler and
says, "thanks you, stranger. i am captain marvel, (he also introduces
ice if ice isnt there to speak for himself...). how did you know htat
was what was bothering this brute?" then, realizing ogre might not sleep
forever, captain marvel gets on his com link to base: "soldier, ogre is,
uh, neutralized. we had a little help. the problem was actually much
smaller than we thought," he says ironically, holding up the mechanical
insect. <wink> "We need some sort of containment for this guy, soldier.
i dont know how long he will sleep. actually, is he wanted for anything
rioght now?"

"Hell yes he is wanted for something!" says the Unknown Soldier over the
comm-link, "How about busting out of Stronghold Prison for one thing.
He's got a rap sheet as long as my arm-most of it is destruction of
property and such. He's also got a bad habit of getting mixed up with
the wrong crowd. I think they take advantage of his low IQ and use him
to do their dirty work most of the time, but that's neither here nor
there.
Hang tight kids, CAPE has a containment team on the way. They'll make
sure he gets back to where he belongs."

Who is CAPE" Prowlers says, "I heard you call them on the radio. I
thought I knew all the superhuman groups in action. And you must be
Captain Marvel, and Iceman. Glad to meet you, and glad I could help."

[Bry, I edited out you asking for directions. You would know where the base is. It is as well known as the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. The Guardians are pretty high profile. They are as famous as major sports and rock stars. In fact a lot of the team's funding comes from merchandising. Just so you know the Guardian's consist of Iceman, Cpt. Marvel, Shockwave (Rob's super strong damage man), Huntress (trained normal with gadget crossbow), Unknown Soldier (retired superhero who acts as team advisor and trainer), and Overdrive (Zach's guy who used a suit of powered armor that gave him superhuman speed and reflexes). I'll explain away Shockwave and Overdrive's absence later on in the story ] RECAP: "CAPE isn't a superteam. They are a federal agency that specializes in investigating and dealing with metahuman crime. "Cap says to Prowler. " They also give people like us superheroes special licenses to legally do the things we do.  They help us out and we help them out. They should be here anytime." Cap then begins to examine the small device that Prowler had knocked from the air. Chills run up his spine as he realizes that the tiny symbols located on the side of it are the same as the Invaders had used in his own time. 'It has begun.' he thinks to himself. Captain Marvel sees the alien device, and the hairs on his nape stand up. He recognizes the technology. Though his memory of that past (or future, as the case may be) is clouded, certain impressions remain in his mind. He knows that this is the beginning. Captain Marvel speaks to Ice and Prowler. "Ice, and you too, Prowler. You are in this as well, now. Say nothing of this device to Cape.  I cannot be more specific at this time. Understand that normally I would cooperate with CAPE in all matters. But this is not their provice, and frankly they would not know what to do with the information I have. I must return to Guardians Tower. I suggest you come there, too, Prowler. If you do not know who CAPE is, I assume you are not licensed. You would do well to keep your name out of their computers, for now at least." Prowler didn't usually mess with these "high and mighty" types, but he couldn't help but be intrigued by them. In all his years of research on metahumans, he had never been able to study any on a power level of this magnitude before. Perhaps if he played his cards right he might be able to become better acquainted with these Guardians. He had heard that their research facilities were state of the art and he so dearly missed being able to work in a real laboratory. With the whir of sirens in the background, Prowler says quickly, "I've never had a problem keeping my name out of government databases, Captain. My base of operations is nearby. I must go there now and check in; then I will come to the Guardians Tower. Iceman, I will see you there too, I presume." "Iceman, Make up a story as to what happened here. Meet me at the Tower as soon as you can, and I will tell you all I know", Captain Marvel says. And with that, Captain Marvel springs into the air, and quickly disappears into the clouds. Prowler leaves and heads to his book store. As he ducks into the entrance, he sees the arrival of a shuttlecraft. Pausing for a moment, he watches as several figures emerge and begin talking with Iceman. What a lucky break I have gotten for my research he muses. With that, he turns and enters the bookstore. "Beau! Gather my long term equipment. I am heading out this afternoon for some field research." Iceman hears the familiar whine of a CAPE shuttlecraft and sees it land nearby. A dozen CAPE agents depart the craft, armed with blasters and wearing the traditional CAPE battle-fatigues. The agents approach and the Commanding Officer addresses Iceman, "Situation normal, all fucked up. Just what is the current situation with our escapee here, Mr. Ice?" Iceman replies, "I stumbled on to this rampaging behemoth wrecking the city and blasted him. I believe he's past out from hypothermia it may not last long. can you contain him? "We will certainly try Sir." says the CAPE leader " Bring the knockout gas and the power shackles." he says to the other agents. The CAPE team quickly straps a device similar to a gas mask onto Ogre's head. The mask quickly fills up with a greenish vapor. They then place the power shackles on him. They are very large and completely encase Ogre's hands and extend up to his elbows. With a lot of effort the team is able to drag Ogre's now unconcious form into the back of their shuttlecraft. "That should take are of him until we return him to Stronghold. Thanks for your assistance Iceman. We appreciate it." The Cape leader says while shaking Iceman's hand. He then boards the shuttlecraft with the others and flies away.

[NOTE: I added a comment for Cap when they are reviewing Prowler's file.
Prowler hadn't told Cap that he had enhanced senses, but he did say that
he had heard the device that was irritating Ogre. If cap took this to
mean he had enhanced sences, then so be it. Cap also got a "feeling"
that Prowler ws supposed to be involved in this. That's why he invited
him back.]

"I'm going to have to tell the others ,"Cpt. Marvel thinks as he arrives
back at Guardians HQ. "Hopefully they will beleive my story, though it
sounds far fetched even to me. They HAVE to beleive me. The fate of
humanity depends on it."

He tries to recall some memory about the history of things to come and
cannot. His memory is chaotic and nonsensical about such things. He
looks at the small device with the strange writing and is flooded with
apprehension and hatred for things that have not even occured yet. "How
can I make them beleive me?" He wonders aloud.


Beau quickly gathers Prowler's equipment.
"When shall I expect you back Sir?"

" I'm not sure Beau. I think I am on to something here. Something Big.
Mind the store for me while I am gone. I will check back in as ofen as I
can. If anyone asks about me tell them I have gone to Europe to stay
with some old friends for awhile."

"Yes, Sir."

Prowler grabs his equipment and makes his way towards the East River
where the Guardians HQ, more commonly known as the Guard Tower, sits
upon an island. It is accessible by an automated ferry. Prowler boards
the ferry and an automated voice asks for his name and nature of his
call.

"Prowler. I'm here to speak with Capt. Marvel." he says.

"Thank you, the Captain is expecting you," The voice says and the ferry
takes him to the island.

Prowler wasn't sure what Marvel had to tell him, but the sound of
Marvel's heartbeat when he saw the device sure kicked into doubletime.
Marvel was excited or scared about something, and Prowler was interested
to find out what made someone as powerful as Marvel scared.


Iceman waited until the CAPE shuttlecraft disappears from view before
heading back to the GuardTower.

He hadn't enjoyed lying to them. The Guardians had always maintaned good
working relationships with the authorities and he didn't want to
jeopordize that.

Cap must have had a good reason for asking him to lie. In Iceman's
opinion Cap had acted rather strangely after examining the small device.
It wasn't like him to jst take off like that either. Cap had become the
teams unofficial spokesperson, always saying the right things to the
media and smoothing things out with the various agencies they dealt
with.

My questions will be answered soon enough, he thought, as he entered the
base and headed fo the briefing/debriefing room.

Captain Marvel sat in the debriefing room with the Unknown Soldier. The
chime sounded, indicating that Ice had arrived. Shortly thereafter, the
frigid superhero appeared, accompanied by a chilly breeze. Cap knew that
he had to explain his actions to Ice and the others. By hiding the
mechanical device from CAPE, he jeopardized the Guardians' relationship
with them. That was serious business.

Shortly after Ice arrived, another chime sounded heralding Prowler's
arrival. "We will wait until Prowler is here, then I will tell you why I
asked you to lie," Cap said to Ice. "Soldier and I dug up everything we
could on the Omni-VAX [the Guardians computer--a semi-artificial
intelligent device capable of hacking into most computer systems on the
globe, and the main information gathering source for the Guardians]
about Prowler." He showed a dossier on Prowler to Ice, and they reviewed
it together. "it's not much to go on, but I have reason to beleive he
can be trusted. Call it a hunch." After a short discussion, they
unanymously agreed to include Prowler in their discussion.
        
Prowler shortly appeared in the debriefing room and was seated.

"I see I have passed your security clearance." Is there anything else
you would like to know, that my dossier does not provide?" Prowler says,
knowing the Gaurdians will have a file on him.

"It it a bit unfortunate for you, Captain Marvel, that you had to bring
an outsider in, eh? I assure you, I have years of experience keeping my
mouth shut. Whatever you tell me, will not come as a surprise."
        

"My name is Captain Marvin Vale. I am from Earth's future--the year
2099, to be exact. By the time I was a young man, earth was embroiled in
a war against an alien invader. We lost that war. I was chosen by the
resistance to come back in time and try to change history--today's
future.
          
"The aliens cleared the way for invasion by secretly manipulating
events on earth,which turned public opinion against metahumans. they
preyed on normal human frailty--mostly fear--and the result was an
eventual world-wide extermination of all metahumans. It didn't happen
overnight, but eventually all metahumans were put into concentration
camps and finally killed. That all happened when I was a small child.
When there were too few metahumans left to matter, the real invasion
began. If earth had still had metahumans, we could have won.
         

 "I was sent back to prevent the war. There were a few key metahuman
catostrophes that were instrumental in turning humanity against
metahumanity. I was supposed to sway public opinion in favor of
metahumans and humans alike--to get the two sides to realize that they
needed each other to survive. Unfortunately, the time machine I was put
into malfunctioned or broke apart. I dont really know what happened, but
when I arrived here, in this time, I was no longer a normal human. I had
powers. And I had almost no memory of specific future events,. All my
memories of the catostrophes that I am here to prevent are gone, or
unintelligible.
          
"The device that was bugging Ogre," here Captain Marvel places the
small item on the center of the table, and a holographic image of it
appears before the heroes, "has alien writing on it. The same writing
the aliens who invaded earth used. I believe it was used by the aliens
to enrage ogre and get him to do violence. I believe this is the
beginning."

    Prowler looks at Captain Marvel for a moment.  
"PPPlease!" Prowlers
laughs indignantly. I have heard some stories now! I spent twenty years
in the intelligence business, for God's sake! But if you expect me to
believe this story, you've got another thing comin.' If you don't want
me to be here, then try to pay me off, and I won't get involved. But to
mislead a professional with such a story. It is disrespectful! What
trail are you trying to throw me off of?"

Prowler's humor takes a noticeably dark turn. Clearly he thinks the
Guardians are trying to find some way to shut him out, without risking
him talking to the media about their actions.

Iceman ignores Prowlers blasphemous remarks and asks Cap, " Have you
found out how to operate or activate the device? Perhaps a visit or
interview with Ogre would prove advantageous in attaining more control
over the future."

He then says to Prowler " I think this matter demands your and all
humanities full attention and greatest combined efforts."

"I agree with Iceman that speaking with Ogre may do some good. but right
now he is on is way back to Stronghold Prison." says the Unknown
Soldier. "However i don't think the public needs to know about this. We
can't prove anything right now, and without proof we are likely to
receive a response much like the one Prowler just provided."

Prowler said nothing. The story itself seemed ridiculous to him.
However, Marvel's heartbeat hadn't skipped a beat during the telling of
his tale. That meant one of three things: Marvel was a lunatic who truly
believed his delusions, he was telling the truth, or Marvel was an
extremely good liar.

" To answer Iceman's question, No I haven't learned how to operate the
device and I'm not really sure what it does," says Capt. Marvel. " I was
hoping we could figure that out. If it, or Ogre, could give us an
indication of where it was sent from, then we could go on the offense,
rather than being on the defense about these matters."

[The following occurs after you guy's make all of your comments ]

The discussion is cut short by the alarm sounding and a call being
patched through to the conference room.

"This is Sgt. O'leary from the NYPD. We've got a situation at the First
national Bank that could use your attention. It seems that a bank
robbery has gone sour and turned into a hostage situation.

There is at least one metahuman involved in this, possibly more. We are
sure of at least one, because whoever is in there is using telekinesis
to levitate the hostages in front of the lobby windows creating a human
shield. SWAT can't get a shot on anyone except the hostages themselves.

We estimate 20 hostages, and are unsure of the total number of robbers
involved. Probably between five and ten. We could use your help. O'Leary
out. "

The Soldier voices everyone's thoughts when he says " Goddammit, I HATE
hostage situations. You guys get going. Take the Sparrow to get there
faster [Sparrow is the nickname of the Guardian's VTOL shuttlecraft].
Prowler if you could tag along, it would be a great help. We are a
little short-staffed at the moment."

"I would be willing,"Says Prowler

" Good," says the Soldier and throws Prowler a
Guardians commlink, "You'll need that."
       
 "Thanks," replies the black clad figure, as he switches the comm-link
to the off position, almost imperceptibly.

With that the heroes depart in the Sparrow and arrive at the bank in
mere minutes. They land far enough away so as not to alert the bank
robbers to their presence

A policeman approaches the sparrow and says, " I'm O'Leary. I'm the
officer in charge ,at least until the feds show up and take over.
Hopefully we won't need them. What is the plan?"

Captain Marvel, Ice, and Prowler stood with O'Leary behind the police
barricade, out of sight of the bank. Marvel had retrieved a laptop from
the Sparrow, and accessed a floorplan for the bank from the Omni-VAX.
          
The heroes surveyed the bank through a parascope. There were at least
twenty people hovering before the bank windows, suspended in air. No
sign of the robbers could be seen.
          
"Soldier," said Captain Marvel, "can you give us any indication of who
we might be dealing with? How many metahumans can levitate others? I'll
patch through an image to the Omni-vax." Marvel then attached one end of
a fiber-optic cable to a jack in the laptop. He held the other end
around the van, pointing it at the bank. The laptop display showed the
images that were being transmitted back to the Guard Tower.

"It's hard to say who it is at this point, I'll need more info.
Telekinesis is one of the more common superpowers. Should be able to
narrow it down once we get some more data, provided they have a file on
them" says the Soldier
          
"If we storm the place, we might end up getting hostages killed. Have
there been any killings in there yet, O'leary?" asked Cap. He hated
hostage situations. It was nearly impossible to protect the hostages,
especially if metahumans were involved. Being invulnerable didn't help
when the pistol was pointed at someone else

"Yeah, They have alredy killed one, you can see her still floating with
the others. They are saying that they'll continue to kill another
hostage every hour until they receive transportation to the airport,and
a private jet." says O'Leary

"One of the problems with you law-enforcement types is overreliance on
technology" says Prowler, as he watches Captain Marvel prepare the
camera. Instead of viewing the scene through the periscope, Prowler
gazes out from behind a police car, and sums up the building.

"If you would occassionally rely on good old-fashioned instinct and
animal moxie, you might find success comes more easily." he says, as he
walks from behind the barricade in the opposite direction ofthe bank.
"oh yea," he calls out, "You ought to call the main branch of the bank,
and find out if there are any off-duty workers from this bank, or others
who have worked here, who could tell us more about the floorplan."

"Who among us can pilot or co pilot the plane? Shouldn't we meet their
request
as soon as possible? We could secret ourselves on the plane as well as
pilot
it." says Iceman.

While Oleary and the rest are discussing the situation Iceman meanders
off so he can talk on the comlinks Members should be able to hear me in
private. "Perhaps we could spot the device on the plane or on the way to
the plane or perhaps we could let them take us to their destination
which may be the point
of origin of the device. But it could be they would go on to perform
other
wanton acts."

Soldiers voice comes over the comm-link, "I don't know what device you
are talking about Iceman. If you are referring to the device that was
found with Ogre, then I think you are being overly paranoid. If we start
relating everything back to what Captain Marvel told us at base ,

you would any other hostage situation, we have no > indication that this

> screams."PLEASE GOD, SOMEBODY,HELP US!!!!" The woman > pulls him
back inside and slams the doors shut once again.


Cap looks around, and notices that Prowler is not present. "Where is our
new companion?" he asks. (Into the Comlink:) "Prowler, were are you?"

After moving out of the view of the vent, and out of range for the
robbers to hear, Prowler switches the commlink on: "Cap, Iceman. This
is Prowler. I am in the ventilation shaft of the bank. The situation
looks like this, he whispers, there are five men, armed with machine
guns. There is a woman, clad in leather, who
is performing the telekenisis. She looks to be the leader. It is
requiring a fair bit of concentration for her to maintain the
telekinesis.
There is a creature with four arms who is cutting himself with knives he
holds in his hands. I believe, from my studies, i remember him to be
called the Wild Child. I suggest we move quickly. They are planning to
kill a hostage soon, over".

Iceman's replies over the commlink "If the mayor refuses to deal, then I
suppose we must deal with that. Could we bring up the limo, get them out
in the open, with fewer hostages, maybe rush them from all sides?"
