History:
Gene Smith is an orphan who was adopted by a couple (William and Mary Smith) who believed they were incapable of having a child. Ironically, a year after he came into the family Mary became pregnant with Luke. Gene is 6 years older than Luke.

Gene Smith is a young man, 21, and before his powers (and the accompanying delusion) appeared he was already a geek. Total trekkie, but also well versed in just about every other form of fandom, Star Wars, Comics, Mythology, Lost in Space, MST3K, Dungeons & Dragons, etc.

Gene was attending a Star Trek Convention that became the site of a super-conflict. The combatants aren't important, or who they were fighting, only that, during the conflict the old convention center they were in suffered structural damage. Gene, his younger brother Luke and his best friend Jill Lee (they have only ever been friends, as much as Gene secretly wished they were more) were pinned under debris. The trauma of being caught in the middle of a fierce super battle and almost killed triggered both his retreat from reality into the belief that he is the 'soul' ancestor of James Kirk and the triggering of his mete-genes.

He is a registered hero, he keeps his belief that his soul will one day be Kirk's to himself mostly. Most people just think he is a big fan of Star Trek. The decision is still out as to whether or not Paramount will sue for copyright infringement, or seek to license his image for a series of comics. Likely, if public opinion ever turns against The Captain, Paramount will turn on him too.

His parents, Luke and Jill know his duel life, and they know they can't keep him from rushing off to danger.

Powers and weapons: His powers of a stunning energy attack, teleportation, and hyperlinguistics mimic those of the devices used by the crew of the original series Star Trek..

Personality: Gene Smith is a little delusional. He believes he is the preincarnation of a swashbuckling space cowboy who captains a powerful spacecraft devoted to exploring the galaxy. In other words he believes that in a future life he will be Captain James T. Kirk. As if to further his delusions, his powers mimic those of the devices used by the crew of the original series Star Trek.

Gene often slips into what his friends call 'Shattner Mode' where he…speaks in dramatic…pauses.

Description: Despite believing himself to be the predecessor of Kirk, his costume is more reminiscent of the Next Gen and DS9 uniforms. Also his costume is reminiscent of Techno's from the start of Thunderbolts, not counting the tech pack, black and red. The costume does include a mask, a simple 'domino' mask (like Bucky's) grudgingly added for his mother's sake.
