[Nothing new. Just combining Brian and Pat's posts. I'll let the scene
play out for awhile before advancing things. If anyone wants to spend
any XP's please let me know. Once the action starts it will be too
late--Keith]
One year ago.....
With the Serpent Helm no longer posing a threat Meta-Force decides to
head back to civilization before the rift closes and traps them on
Amazonia, for an entire month. Zena stays behind with her people to
coordinate the repopulation of the Amazons.
A private funeral service is held for Electra shortly after the team's
return to Manhattan. The entire team is there, including Master
Menagero, Ms. Chesterton, Guy and Calvin (minus the camera), Ari Goldman
as well as several members of the Guardians.
After everyone pays their respects, Ari approaches the team. " In light
of recent events, I've decided to pull the plug on the show. It's just
too dangerous. This is the second team member that has been killed , not
to mention the others that have been severely injured in the line of
duty. So effective immediately, Meta-Force is canceled. You can keep the
team name if you want and carry on on your own, but I'm washing my hands
of any involvement."
Since then...
The Guardians have relocated their headquarters from Manhattan to an
orbiting satellite above Earth, taking on a more global responsibility.
This, combined with the cancellation of the Meta-Force superhero reality
show, effectively left Manhattan without a resident super team.
Fortunately things have been relatively quiet as far as major menaces to
the city go (No alien invasions or large scale masterminds trying to
take over the world). But, there is always a need for heroes regardless
of such threats--bank robberies, burning buildings, cats stuck in trees
etc. So despite Meta-Force being disbanded, the former team members
have managed to keep busy individually both as heroes and in their
civilian lives as well:
Simon Kirby (aka Verve) has graduated form art school and become a
successful comic book artist for Empire Comics, and has been in a few
forays as Verve, teaming up a couple of times with Roughneck. Though he
has largely not kept in touch with his old team-mates due to his busy
work schedule.
Rupert Renspottenick, a.k.a. Master Menagero, has been leading the
charge in genetic research from his Renscorps lab. The last super-fray
he had been in had been against the devious Old-Timers. However, he
defeated them. He suffered a major case of the hives for several months
before finally stablizing thanks to a perfected pharmaceutical mix from
his doctor. He still suffered the frequent allergy attacks but it was
little price to pay in exhange for phenomanal super powers, he thought.
He buried himself in his work and oftentimes dreamt of Zena.
[I'll leave it up to the rest of you to describe what your character has
been up to for the past year, and in the case of Zena, assuming gary
wants to be involved, coming up with a reason why she is back in
Manhattan at the moment.]
Zena has taken her role as queen of the amazons very seriously. She has
done her best to help in her peoples repopulation, though the process is
going slowly. Only recently the next generation of amazons has been born
to their caring mothers, and the numbers are still small. She has
decided to do her best to warn herself and her people of any further
threats to their society. To accomplish this she constantly communicates
with the animal population of the island to learn of any incursions into
her realm. So far, however, all has been quiet. All has been quiet
except a secret desire that has grown in Zena this past year. A desire
that she feels must be fulfilled soon. If not for her own selfish
reasons, than for the good of her
Frank hasn't had an easy time the past year. After Meta-Force disbanded,
he tried to make a go at being a freelance super hero, going on a couple
of missions with Kirby aka Verve. It didn't work out. Frank quickly
learned that super heroes do not make any money for their exploits, and
he had serious difficulty finding a day job, as his disfigurement turned
most people away in disgust. He has also had to remain in hiding, as he
still fears he is sought by those who made him. Altogether, this has
made his life rather hard. He currently works as a janitor at a sleazy
hotel called the Coral Essex, a job that barely pays the bills.
Julia hung up her tights after Meta-force disbanded. She returned to
Columbia and for a while had been going to AA meetings. Recently, she
has been moonlighting as Kinetica again, usually being completely drunk
at the time and making a complete ass of herself. The papers have been
having a field day with her.
Sci-Fi has been spliting his time between fighting crime, going to
college (part time) and filming made for tv movies and commericals for
his new corporate sponser, The Sci-Fi Channel. They've provided him
with a new silver and neon green costume (made from the same material as
used in the Spider-Man movies), and streamlined the design on his
scanner goggles.
His films have been...MST3k worthy, but he's gotten to work alongside
John Ryhse Davies, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Ben Bowder and the
great Bruce Campbell. The Sci-Fi Channel is pushing him to star in a
weekly series, but to do this he would likely have to either give up
crime fighting or school.
Sci-Fi has also continued to look after his brother, Luke, who had
developed powers similar to The Force. Luke, while registered, is still
underage and is not offically a superhero yet (though he has saved his
high school form a few odd threats, including alien pod people and an
insane gym coach/criminal mastermind).
The Present...
Regardless of where the individual heroes are currently and what they
are up to, they all hear this NEWSFLASH from the 11pm News Program:
"Now, with a late-breaking story, around 10:11pm this evening, an
explosion rocked the BioGen research lab, located on the Upper East Side
of Manhattan. In the ensuing confusion, a monster escaped from the
building and has left a path of destruction, randomly moving throughout
this defenseless city. City officials have attempted to contact local
heroes, but none have arrived to subdue the monster."
[Any heroes arriving at the scene, (assume they all show up at roughly
the same time) see the following. ]
Zena only arrived in the city a short time ago. She knows what she is
looking for and since the team has been disbanded and she has no real
way of contacting them, she decided to hunt them. The newsflash gave her
the first opportunity to locate her prey. Still fairly unfamiliar with
the city, it took Zena, Tolwynn and Tancreed a while to reach the
location on the newsflash.
Frank had just fallen asleep in his grimey apartment when his neighbor's
radio alarm goes off. His neighbor works third shift, and on Frank's few
nights off from third shift at the Coral Essex, he was usually awakened
this way. He lies there listening and hears the radio report the events
at BioGen. Figuring he won't get back to sleep anytime soon anyway,
Frank sits up in bed. It has been months since he's goine out as
Roughneck, and he feels like it's time to give it another go. He pulls
on his old black costume. It smells of old sweat, and there are still
holes in it that he never repaired. He checks to make sure no one is in
the alley, then climbs out into the night.
Smoke still pours from several windows of the Biogen building and a
section of the wall has been knocked down, presumably by the monster.
Firefighters seem to have the blaze under control and emergency
vehicles, including police and ambulances have arrived. Everything seems
to be in order, except, in the distance, the heroes can here faint
screams of terror and property damage being done.
Zena watches from a nearby rooftop. As far as she can tell the civilians
seem to have everything under control and she didn't come back to the ci
ty to fight a monster. She came for something else... something more
personal. She waits in the shadows on the rooftop watching the scene to
see if other heroes - hopefully the former heroes of Meta-Force - arrive
soon .
[Great to be back in the game guys - even if it is just a one-shot
special!]
[Since we don't have hands yet, I will just say that Zena will use
whatever cards she has to spot any members of Meta-Force (or threats for
that matter) that come into her range of vision, use trump or highest
card along with any edge cards I may have - Garry]
Frank approaches BioGen from a sidestreet. The building he stands next
to looks vacant, so he climbs up to get a better view of BioGen. Once
he's on top, he scans the area, using his enhanced vision....
He immediately notices the presence of a large red haired amazon who
appears to be scanning the scene form the same rooftop as him. It is
obvioulsy Zena, but what was she doing here?
Menagero uses his super-human tracking powers to determine if there are
any familiar "friends" in the vicinity. However, his prime concern is
meeting the monster face-to-face. His battle versus Harbinger while on
the moon--Menagero's last mission with Meta-Force--gave him a spot of
courage. And he wasn't about to let some over-sized freakshow sap that
courage from his lanky muscles. Driving at top speed in his newly
purchased Volvo S80 (a safe car), MM heads for the monster, hoping to
latch onto some super-power that will aid him in his mission.
As Menagero approaches the site, his metahuman radar immediately latches
onto a familair energy signature. It is definitely amazonian in nature
and seems to be coming from the top of a nearby abandoned building.
It is the squaking of Tancreed that alerts zena to Roughneck's arrival.
She looks over at the hero and a small smile escapes from her face
before being recaptured by her stern demeanor. She stands up from her
kneeling position and begins silently striding towards Frank.
Did Zena *smile* at me? thinks Frank. He waves at her, surprised to see
her. He's seen the other heroes from Meta Force from time to time, but
he thought Zena was still on her island. Wonder why she left...must be
somethin' important, he thinks.
[Any interaction between Roughneck, Zena and MM can be put here. We will
say that Julia and Verve show up a bit later.]
Kirby was working late at the studio of Empire Comics located in the
Empire State building when he hears the news flash. "Holy Crap!' he says
as he quickly put away the bristol board drawings of the Escapist he was
penciling, grabs his art kit and portfloio and dashes for the elevator.
He punches the button for the observatory deck. Once the elevator starts
moving up, he grabs some white grease paint form his kit and smears it
over his face, adding dark highlights around the eyes. He opens a back
compartment of his portfolio and pulls out a ratty, black trenchcoat,
which he quickly dons. His transformation into Verve is just completed
as the express elavator opens up onto the observation deck level. He
steps out, does a quick sketch of a jet pack which vanishes from the
page and materializes before him. He dons the squiggly lined
contraption, runs for the deck and launches himself into th air, as the
rockets kick in. "WaaaaaHooooo!!!! he screams as he jets off in the
direction of Biogen.
Several minures later, as he is appraoching the site he takes in the
scene, flying a large arc above the site of the destruction.
Kinetica arrives wearing a blue-and-orange spandex variant of her
previous costume. She has put on about 10-15 pounds since you've last
seen her, as evidenced by the fact that her costume doesn't quite fit
her anymore. She swerves and weaves as she flies to the scene, and
smashes into a street lamp knocking it over. She takes another swig
from her beer bottle.
Verve lands on the street next to Kinetica, and his animated jet pack
disappears. He offers his hand to help her up. "Hey stranger, nice
landing." Verve says with a concerned look on his face. "Are you sure
you are in any condition to be doing the superhero thing right now?
Maybe you should go home and sleep it off. Nice costume by the way."
Verve had always liked Julia, despite her cynical demeanor, or maybe
because of it, but her drinking had always alarmed him. He'd tried to
keep in contact with her after Meta-Force broke up, calling her a few
times but she either never returned his calls or was too drunk to be
coherent. Whatever demons she was trying to drown obviously ran deep.
"I'm not drunk!" says Kinetica, waving the beer bottle. "This is just a
little pick me up." Kinetica attempts to land on her feet, but stumbles
over and lands face first on the sidewalk, spilling the remnants of her
beer. She starts laughing uncontrollably.
The three other heroes, Master Menagero, Zena ,and Roughneck cannot help
but notice the speactacle of both Kinetica's and Verve's arrival.
Zena leaps over the side of the building, flipping and jumping from fire
escape to flagpole to power line pole until she finally comes to rest on
the tumbled over street lamp near Kinetica. Zena crouches like a cat on
the broken device as Tolwynn and Tancreed make their way down as well.
She glances up at the roof to see if Frank is coming down or not.
Suddenly, in a shimmer of blue light Sci-Fi appers on the sceen. His
scanner goggles clicking on taking a reading on the immediate area.
"We having a reunununion?" asks Kinetica, still laying on the ground.
"Nobody invited me, teehee."
Frank, seeing the others gathering below, follows Zena off the building.
[If it isn't too high, he will leap down.] "Looks like the gang's all
here. Let's find out what's makin' all that racket." His questions for
the others will have to wait. The heroes can still hear property damage
being done, several blocks away. Roughneck looks in that direction,
using his enhanced vision to see if he can pick up the monster's trail.
[Even if he can't, it seems obvious which way the noise is coming form,
correct GM?] He heads in that direction.
The trail left by the
monster can be easily found by following the path
of destruction left in it's wake including broken fire hydrants, downed
traffic lights, smashed cars, and shattered windows.
Along the way Kinetica pops open another beer and chugs it down [Failed
to resist. -2 on abilities. 4 beers left.] Zena
looks her over as she chugs down the foul ale. She can't help but
wonder why Kinetica would defile her body in such a manner
"What?" says Kinetica. "You want one? Go get your own!"
"You disgust me." Zena mutters. She has always tried to feel a kinship
for Kinetica due to her being a woman, but she shows herself no respect
which is something Zena can't stand.
“I’ve missed you too,” replies Kinetica.
She's going to wind up getting herself or somebody else killed,
thinks
Verve. But there was no time to debate it with her. This was
certainly
not the time or place for an intervention.
The path leads to a wrecked subway entrance, where the monster has
obviously gone underground. Screams can be heard from below and people
are running up the stairs, pointing down behind. As the heroes descend
to the subway platform thay see a desperate situation. A gigantic,
muscular man draped in torn, shredded white clothes stands next to a
damaged subway train, holding a shrieking woman. The Monster has
canines and a huge cranium, reminiscent of a Neanderthal, except much
bigger and hairier. It stands nearly 10 feet tall.
"Damn, I have had-hic-dates better looking than that thing!" say s
Kinetica.
Sparks from the damaged subway threatens to harm innocent bystanders
trapped within, some of which are already hurt from the Monster's
initial attack. The subway conductor is screaming at the heroes. "The
next train should be here at any minute and the radio is down! If
something 's not done there's going to be a collision!"
"Don't you worry about I, the train will take care of it!" pipes up
Kinetica. She flies off down the tunnel and attempts to create a
force
field wall to stop the train. [Playing Stingray 6I, with Rhino 1D
for
Edge]
The woman being held by the monster shrieks hysterically,"Oh God! Help
Me!!!!!"
[There is a chance that by attacking the Monster, the woman will
be
hit, especially with ranged attacks]
Roughneck's computer core sizes up the monster, superimposing the
combat grid on his vision. The core whispers to him, attempting to
compel him to immediately attack the creature, without regard for the
woman or the oncoming train.
He shakes his head, resisting the core. None of the others will
be
able to stop the train, he thinks. And if there's a wreck, people on
both trains will die. He makes his decision and acts.
"I'll try to stop the train!" He leaps off the platform (avoiding
the
monster) and rushes down the tunnel toward the oncoming subway train.
[He has Lightning Speed. When he gets there, he will yell at the driver
to put on the brakes, and will position himself in front of the train
(holding onto it), and try to stop it by putting his feet down on the
tracks, sorta like when Spiderman tried to stop the el-train in
Spiderman 2. I use my 7S (trump) and 8A (push) to attempt to stop the
train.]
Zena walks gently, but confidently, towards the monster and his
prisoner. She momentarily forgets her reasons for being here. Her
lioness companion graciously strides next to her, ready to pounce if
commanded to do so. Zena's right hand begins to form a fist, but her
middle and index fingers stay extended. Poised to strike at his
pressure points, she addresses the monstrosity, "Unleash your victim,
mindless one, or I will be forced to bring about the end of your life."
[No action yet, though I will declare a dodge to be on the safe side.
We'll use 4Str to dodge with this turn]
Verve hangs back, pencil and sketchpad poised to whip up whatever
is
most needed by his former teammates.
"Verve," shouts Sci-Fi, "Let Zena and Menagero handle Encino Man,
sketch up some rubber bands webs or something to help Kinetic and
Roughneck try to slow the on-coming train. I'm going to try to
ferry
people out."
Sci-Fi puts his hand to his visor adjustic the scanner, getting a beed
on a safe place to teleport into the train.
4I + trump to scan for a safe spot, 7 Agil + Trump to teleport (if I
can do that this turn)
"It is, of course, quite possible that I am allergic to this 'Encino
Man'", Menagero remarks while trying to duplicate the monster's powers.
(6W) "Yet, I am even more allergic to an innocent being being harmed."
Mnagero steps forward. "Listen here, foul villain, (or possibly,
misunderstood creature). Put the lady down before we have to put you
down. Hehe *ah-choo*. (Debinidely allergig.)" he groans.
Kinetica flies off down the
corridor, erratically pingponging a few
times off the subway walls before straightening out her flight path.
Once stable, she pops open another beer and drinks it down thirstily,
pitching the empty can behind her. Her vision swims a little, but she
can hear the subway train rushing down the tunnel towards them, and
sees the light of the engine approaching in the darkness.
[Failed to resist the alcohol addiction again]
She creates a large cushion like force shape in the path of the subway
train, anchored on each side of the tunnel. The train slams into the
force field, slowing it down slightly, but still moving forward quite
quickly. The force shape, stretches and strains under the pressure and
finally snaps in two. The train rushes underneath Kinetica who is
hovering near the ceiling.
Sci-Fi teleports safely aboard the damaged subway train, startling the
passengers trapped within as he materializes amongst them.
The Creature bellows angrily at Zena as she approaches, it quickly
grabs a nearby bench and throws it at her. Zena narrowly avoids the
bench, as it whizzes over her head and smashes into kindling on the
concrete wall behind her.
Menagero rushes forward trying to assume the powers of the monster and
is nearly knocked unconscious from the power backlash. The creature is
more powerful than he imagined.
[failed to duplicate it's powers, but you can try again. If Zena gets
near you I will probably do an aura reading to see if you take on her's
or the monster's powers.]
Zena, having moved in closer after the monster's
attempted assault, moves in for her attack. She juts her hand forward
hoping that this creature has nerve clusters in similar locations to
most other living creatures. [7Int for Stun, pushing with 4 Int; Dodge
with the other 4 Int]
Roughneck catches up to the action, and leaps towards the oncoming
train, trying to grab hold of the engine car as it rushes past him. He
catches hold of a railing and is immediately whisked away along with
the train. He moves toward the front of the train and yells at the
conductor to put on the brakes, as he positions himself to test
whether he is more powerful than a locomotive.
As he braces himself, he sees an animated version of Captain Marvel
shimmer into into existence next to him, compliments of Verve.
"Mind
if I help out", it says with a pencil smudged John Romita style heroic
grin.
Thank god, thinks Roughneck. The train is barreling down the tunnel,
and now that he's on it he doesn't think he'd have much chance stopping
it alone. He wonders if Verve's Captain Marvel is as strong as the real
Captain Marvel. Getting a grip on the front of the train, he lowers
himself so his feet can touch the ground and sticks both legs out,
trying to slow it down before it crashes. "Ready, now!" [Using 1S edge,
7S trump, and 6A push to slow the train. How far is it to the stopped
train ahead? Are there other tracks running parallel to this one?][No
other tracks]
Kinetica attempts to get in front of the train again. She
attempts to
aid Roughneck in slowing it down by flying against it (play 2A to fly
ahead if needed, 4S plus 1I edge to brace against it).
Captain Marvel joins Kinetica in flying against the train.
"Evening,
Miss" he says with a nod towards her.
"If at first you don't succeed," Menagero recited as he tried to assume
the monster's powers once more. He ran forward, not willing to meet
with failure so that he could save the frightened innocent. His plan:
assume the monster's strength and then place a carefully placed grip on
his opponent's forearm, pinching the appropriate muscles in an effort
to force the beast to release his captive. If he failed, his plan: try
to block out the world of hurt by screaming at the top of his lungs.
OOC: Using my 9A + pushing with the 5A - all out attack, if possible.
Zena
rushes in and strikes a nerve cluster on the monsters neck. It howls in
shock, more than pain and swings a clumsy fist at her, which she easily
avoids.
Master Menagero rushes forward and feels the monster's
power coursing through him. He also takes on many of the monster's
physical characteristics; his muscles bulge, he grow hairier, taller
and his forehead slopes. He grabs the monster's arm that holds the
woman, squeezing it with all of his might. The creature releases his
grip on the woman, who falls ot the ground and quickly scrambles away ,
screaming hysterically.
Master Menagero notices that the tattered cloting the creature is
wearing look like a biogen lab coat.
Kinetica
flies to the front of the train, drinking another beer along the way.
She, Roughneck, and "Captain Marvel" combine their might in an attempt
to stop the speeding subway train. Metal creaks and groans as they do
so. Roughneck's feet take a pounding as he digs them into the ground in
front of the train. The wreckage of the other subway looms ahead of
them d gets closer and closer, until they finally come to a stop about
10 feet from collision.
"Whew!"
says Roughneck. He looks at Captain Marvel and is about to speak to
him, but then realizes that, of course, he is just one of Verve's
creations. He then hears the monster roar on the platform and runs to
enter the fray. [He will go attack the monster HTH, using 6S for attack
and 6A for defense.] He feels his computer core fire up as the
red-tinted battle grid descends on his vision--almost like a berserker
rage. When he is in combat, the world is blood-red to Roughneck. Though
this is what usually what happens, something feels different this time.
Perhaps his recent advances in accessing information from his computer
core are to blame.
Sci-fi begins teelporting teh trapped passengers to safety
[Joe, if you wish to do something else, then let me know]
Sci-Fi
looks at the trapped passengers, and says "Come with me... If you want
to live." in a dead pan tone. "But please, women, children and
the
handicaped first."

"You
stay!" Kinetica orders the stopped train. She then starts
giggling
like a madman. [No action this round. If she needs to dodge, play

Two laser-like beams project from Cpt.
Marvel's
eyes, burning holes through Kinetica's remaining beer cans. "I
think
you have had enough" he says, as the beer trickles onto the fround.
"The party is over. "
“Hey!
I was ga-drinking
that!”
Menagero
places the Bio-Gen monster in a bear hug. "This monster was obviously a
man or a woman. He/she could be in dire need of help, help that only
Meta-Force can provide. Now, hold still, beasty, and I *WA-choo!*
promise that you will receive the aid you need."
Grapple with strenght and
trump.
If he tries to strike or hurt me or my tema members, block with 3D.
Zena directs her animal friends to attack the
gruesome creature as she again tries to disable the beast. [Use
1A +
5I for attack; Dodge with 3I unless my redraw is better] Master Menagero strains with
all of his might to hold onto the
creature, but it slips out of his grasp, with a guttural howl and
backhands him with an anvil sized fist, causing Menagero to nearly lose
consciousness.
[Didn't play the 3D for dodge, because you came up with a better card
on the redraw]
Zena attempts another nerve strike, this time hitting a nerve cluster
on the creature's abdomen. As she lands the blow, the monster's body
immediately stiffens and it's eyes roll back in it's head. It
falls to
the floor a with a thud that makes the ground tremble.
Roughneck's stops short as he sees this, though a flashing readout in
his vision reading "terminate", with targeting cross hairs on the
creature nearly compels him to follow the order.
Sci-Fi
continues teleporting as many people as possible from the wreckage of
the first subway train. The animated Captain Marvel aides him, by
ripping
the jammed doors off of one of the cars, opening an exit point for
those who can move on their own.
Kinetica watches all of this through blurred vision.
Once the passengers are all safely off of the damage subway. The heroes
discuss the situation. They agree that the most logical place to
continue this investigation is Biogen, especially considering the
Biogen lab coat worn by the creature.
Roughneck shakes his
head, freeing himself from the influence of his core. That was a new
experience. For a moment, just a moment, he had fully intended to kill
the creature. He realizes it was his core controlling him. Usually he
feels the core pushing, and he can push back, but this time...the core
seemed to take control without him realizing it. He moves away from the
othes, watching the monster, waiting to see how the others decide to
deal with its unconscious form.
Verve crates a temporary restraints for the
unconscious creature until they turn it over to a team of CAPE agents
who have arrived on the scene at Biogen.
Sci-Fi,
after ensuring the last few passengers are safe, and signing a few
autographs for some fan-boys comes over the creature. "Kinda
reminds
me of Bruce after a hard night on the town. Maybe we could
put this
guy in a zoo for a few days till we sort this out, it seems he wasn't
really in control of himself, and he'd proably fit in better there than
in jail."
[Just moving things along here. Feel free to
add dialogue above. The issue of what to do with the unconscious
creature definitely needs to be addressed.]
As the heroes
approach Biogen they see that the emergency teams are still working on
the building and its inhabitants. The fire seems under control and
injured people have been taken to nearby hospitals. The police are
interviewing personnel at the
lab about tonight's incident. The building itself is trashed from the
explosion.
As they come closer they see a policeman interviewing a man who appears
to be a janitor. They overhear the following conversation.
"I
was cleaning out storage closet at the far end of the building when I
heard this inhuman howl. It chilled me to the bone, I tell ya. Then,
there was this big explosion that shook the building. I was far enough
away so I didn't get hurt but ceiling tiles fell on top of me. This is
the last time I take a job at these weird science places!"
All
of a sudden, a hot gust of wind sweeps through the crowd, and everyone
feels what can only be described as a wave of hatred and anger, as the
wind passes over them. The feeling vanishes as soon as the wind
blows
by. Immediately following this a section of the remaining wall begins
shaking and falls, threatening to crush a group of scientists
standing
nearby.
Roughneck moves quickly to the wall and tries to hold
it up. [6S to try to hold up the wall.] [If the scientists have not
seen the wall falling yet, he warns them.
Kinetica attempts to expand her force field to protect the civilians.
[6W]
Menagero stands back and tries to detect all super-powers in the
vicinity. "A strange wind blows, my compatriots. I suggest we find out
the source of our woes very soon. We cannot be sure when the Biogen
Beast will awaken and, if it does, whether the inhibitor cuffs will
hold it. I would not want to risk the monster's wrath on the CAPE team
we left it with." (toss best card)
[Master Menagero doesn't detect any metahumans in the area, other than
his teammates and the Monster.]
Verve quickly whips out his drawing pad, and begins sketching as
quickly as he can, but he is unsure if he can complete his drawing
before, the wall falls on the scientists.
Unable
to really do anything effective from this distance, Zena just stands
guard over Verve and watches the other heroes move into action. [Zena
will attack anything that might try to stop Verve from completeing his
drawing (7 Str), She will dodge with the 5I unless dodging would
endanger Verve, in which case she'll take the hit].
Sci-Fi adjusts his google scanners to sweep the area on the other side
of the wall. (6W to scan)
Roughneck sprints
towards the falling wall, shouting at the
scientists to warn them, as Kinetica flies past him in a blue
streak
of glowing light. She quickly lands next to the scientists and
expands
her force field to envelope them. the wall crashes down on the
force
field and it pulses with blue light, growing stronger from the kinetic
energy. The impact having been absorbed by Kinetica's force
field,
Roughneck is able to fling the one remaining large chunk of wall clear
of the scientists and Kinetica.
Verve, seeing that the
situation is taken care of, stops his drawing. Seeing Zena
standing
protectively over him, he says "Thanks for the thought, Zena,
" he
then approaches where the scientists are standing with Roughneck and
Kinetica.
"Of course, Simon." Zena replies as if it were nothing to her.
Menagero and Sci-Fi both use their powers to detect anyone in the area.
Sci-Fi notices nothing out of the ordinary where the wall once stood,
and menagero cannot detect any other metas than his team mates and the
monster.
All
of the scientists thank the heroes, and all but one female
scientist
moves away to safer ground. The attractive woman, who looks to be in her
early thirties, identifies herself as Dr. Heloise "Thanks again for
helping us, but I need to tell you something. I think Dr.
Sheen had
something to do with the explosion. He was one of the scientists you
just saved, the balding balding man in his late forties with the
ugly
tie. It was his area that exploded. He shared a lab with Dr.
James
Carson. None of us have seen Carson since before the explosion"
Master
Menagero steps forward. "I wouldn't *sniffle* worry to much about
*cough* Dr. Carson. (I apologize. I beleive it's the perfume you are
wearing, ma'am.) We have you Dr. Carson right there!" With a dramatic
flair of his white cape, MM points to the monstrous Bio-Gen Beast
captured mere moments ago and currently held in custody by the advanced
CAPE team.
"What makes you think that thing is Dr. Carson? " asks Dr. Solomon.
"What proof do you have to support this hypothesis?"
[Roughneck
doesn't try to interrupt Dr. Solomon's conversation with Menagero, but
at some point he does try to ask her the following:] "You say Dr. Sheen
had somethin' to do with the explosion. Waddya mean? Do you think he
meant to cause it somehow? Were he and Dr. Carson enemies or
somethin'?"
"They worked together in the same lab, though I
have no idea what they were working on. Someone said they heard them
getting into an argument earlier in the lobby. I'm not suggesting that
Dr. Sheen intentionally caused the explosion, but it did come from the
same area as his labs." replies Dr. Solomon.
[This convesrsation can carry on awhile, but will soon be interrupted
by the CAPE guard's shout. See below. If you respond to it, do so below
in the Zena thread]]
"The queen bitch, maybe," says Julia in reply to Zena's comment to the
CAPE agent [see bleow]
"Somebody's becoming a mean drunk, " says Verve.
"Who's drunk?" says Julia. "I'm just a widdle tipsy, thwat's all."
Verve
rolls his eyes at her. "Maybe we need to talk with Dr. Sheen, " says
Verve. "Come on Kinetica. Stick with me and don't say anything. We
don't want the whole world to know you are wasted. People have a bad
enough opinion of metas as it is," he says moving across the
grounds
towards Dr Sheen. The last thing we need is a drunk meta in a catfight,
he thinks. I guess it is up to me to babysit the drunk. Brings back
fond memories of home. ."
"Vervey-poo, you haven't sween me
wasted yet," says Kinetica. "So I had a little to dwink
tonight. Next
time there's a Biowen monster running about, you want us to wait awound
till I sober up first?"
"No. Call me crazy, but I'd expect you not to drink on the job. Now's
not the time to talk about this anyway. " responds Verve.
"Dr. Sheen! Could I have a word with you!? " shouts Verve as he
approaches the scientist.
"How can I help you?" asks Dr. Sheen turning to faceVerve.
"I was wondering what sort of work you and Dr. Carson were involved in
here at Biogen."
"Ahh,
of course. nothig I like talking about better than my research. For
hundreds of years, scientists and theologians have argued over the
existence of the soul. Dr. Carson and I have been working on a
procedure that would isolate the human spirit so that we may answer one
of the biggest questions of the universe. Does man have a soul?"
"I see," says Verve. "and have you been in contact with Dr.
carson
since the argument you had with him earlier?"
Dr.
Sheen immediately becomes defensive. "Are you accusing me of
something?! I am a value member of the scientific community! I don't
have to be subjected to this!" He says and storms off, heading
into
the undamaged part of the building.
"Dr.
Solomon was right. That is an ugly tie." Verve says to Julia
"Besides
that, he's acting awfully fishy" Verve fumbles for his pack of smokes
in his coat, and can't find them. He remembers that he is trying to
quit and threw them all away. He consider's sketching a pack up, but
doesn't figure it would be the same. Probably worse than ultra light
slims. "Damn." he mutters
"I'd off you a beer, but I'm all out thwanks to Captain Bwuzzkill,"
says Kinetica.
Suddenly, Verve and kinetica hear a CAPE guard shouting. [see below]
[I
figured that it would take me a minute or so to stroll over to the
creature so I left room for the others to finish their conversation
with the scientist, before my encounter with the newly dubbed Bio-Gen
Beast]
Rupert continues to call this monster a beast.
Perhaps it is a beast. And if it is a beast then I should be able to
talk to and possibly control it... thinks Zena. She walks away from
Master Menagero and heads towards CAPE and the creature in custody
As
Zena approaches the creature she looks to see if it is conscious yet,
or if it is still down. She sees that the creature, is slowly
rousing
from unconsciousness, as she approaches the titanium reinforced "paddy
wagon". From the back of the wagon, the creature spots, Zena
approaching with her animal companions and bares it's teeth growling
aggresively at them through the bulletproof glass of the back two
doors. The two CAPEagents, train their blasters on the beast man.
"Stand back miss, we don't know what this thing is still capable of. It
has an inhibitor collar on, but better to be on the safe side."
"Do not think to address me as a commoner, male. I am a queen and you
will treat me as such." states Zena, snapping at the agent who spoke to
her."
"The queen bitch, maybe," Zena hears Kinetica say. [see above]
Zena
stares into the beast's eyes, and tries to speak to it in a way that it
will understand. "Feral-one, can you understand me?"
[1 Will +
5I to try and communicate with the Bio-Gen Beast; Dodge with the 3I
(unless I redraw better) if the agent is right and it breaks loose --
Garry]
Zena is unable to establish communication with the
creature however, she is able to pick up some rudimentary feeling of
the creature's emotional state. It is angry, frightened, and confused.
"What
will happen to this creature?" Zena asks of no one in particular, but
expecting a prompt response. Tolwynn and Tancreed rest by her side.
"It
will more than likely be taken to a temporary holding cell at the
nearest CAPE location once this situation is declared stable. After
that, I'm not sure." replies one of the CAPE guards. "Your
Highness,"
he adds sarcastically.
Zena's
eyes dart quickly towards the soldier. There is a viciousness located
in the depths of her eyes. She has heard this tone before, mostly from
Kinetica. She has tolerated it from her because she is a woman, but
this subordinate is simply a male and not worthy of her patience and
tolerance. Zena begins to stride towards the CAPE soldier who addressed
her. Her body language makes her intentions pretty clear.
"Freeze!" shouts the CAPE agent pointing his gun at her. "Do not
come
any closer!"
His
partner follows suit, pointing his blaster at Zena as well. He speaks
into the commlink in his helmet, "Atttention! All units report to
the
wagon for backup. Possible hostile meta. Repeat.. Hostile meta!" The
other CAPE agents in the area immediately begin sprinting towards the
paddy wagon.
[The
other's can see this occuring, as well as hear the shouted command of
teh first guard. All of teh CAPE agents wear light exoskeleton armor
and helmets (similar to Stormtrooper armor), as well as blasters. There
may be more specialized weaponry as well, but it is impossible to tell
at this point. Zena is within firing distance of her former team
members]
Hearing the action near the paddywagon, Frank turns
from the scientists and sees the CAPE begin to surround
someone...apparently it is Zena!
He leaves the scientists in
mid-sentence and runs toward the CAPE agents, the closest of which has
his blaster drawn and aimed at Zena. [Can I hold my action until later
this turn, to see what the agents do?]
"Queeny certainly has a way with people," says Kinetica, heading off to
investigate.
Tolwynn
begins growling at the officers, baring her teeth. "It's a mistake to
back a lion into a corner." Zena calmly explains staring at the
sarcastic officer the whole time she is becoming surrounded. "It is
worse to corner a lioness!" As Zena shouts Tancreed flies upwards into
the sky to avoid the rain of bullets or whatever weaponry these agents
begin firing at her. Tolwynn leaps at the nearest officer attempting to
disable his (or her) gun arm.
"And
I am far worse than a lioness!" shouts out Zena following it up with a
battle cry. She ducks and weaves trying to avoid the weapons fire as
she approaches the officer who offended her. She uppercuts the officer
when she gets there.
[8 Doom for dodge or
deflection with gauntlets, whichever is more appropriate, 7 Strength
for my attack on the CAPE agent -- dang... gonna get arrested again!]
Frank runs toward the
melee, yelling, "NO!"
[I will play the 5I for
my agility action.
Frank's contingent actions:
If Zena is hit by any of the guards, Frank will attack that guard. (3S
to
attack, use my replacement card for the 5I to dodge)
If Zena is not hit by any of the guards, and if she fails to disable
the
guard she is attacking, Frank will still tackle that guard, not
intending to
damage him but to get him out of melee with the warrior princess. (same
cards)
If Zena is not hit and disables her target, Frank will try to talk to
Zena
and the guards, saying, "STOP STOP STOP! We're all on the same side
here!"]
Menagero
mutters, "This is going to be messy." But he makes his way the long way
around. He knows that Meta-Force can handle a few excited guards. Its
the Bio-Gen Beast he is worried about. He makes an effort to absorb the
Beast's power (Keith, do you remember that Menagero absoarbs the power
of whomever he is CLOSEST to.) and contain it lest it break free.
Last round..
"It's a mistake to back a lion into a corner."
Zena calmly explains staring at the sarcastic officer the whole time
she is becoming surrounded. "It is worse to corner a lioness!" As Zena
shouts Tancreed flies upwards into the sky, as Tolwynn leaps at the
nearest officer [#2] attempting to disable his gun arm. The man
is
able to move his arm away , seconds before the lioness' jaws would have
snapped shut on his arm. He fires a plasma blast at the jungle cat, who
leaps out of harm's way.
"And I am far worse than
a lioness!"
shouts out Zena following it up with a battle cry. She moves quickly
toward the other officer [#1] and lands a jaw crunching uppercut before
the man can even get a shot off. He is lifted off of the ground and
lands ten feet away in the parking lot. He is unconscious before
he
ever hits the ground.
This round....
Frank runs toward the
melee, yelling, "NO!" As he reaches the melee, he says , "STOP STOP
STOP!
We're all on the same side here!"
"Then
call this damn lion off of me!' says the second CAPE agent, who is
readying another shot at Tolwynn who appears ready to pounce again.
Verve can also be heard
yelling for Zena to stop, as he runs forward.
During
the melee, Master Menagero, sprints on the outskirts of the others,
coming up from the far side of the CAPE paddy wagon. He once again
feels the powers of the Bio-Gen beast flood over him, and his features
take on a neanderthal-like appearance.
As all of this is
occurring, the other CAPE agents are sprinting forward to surround
Zena. "Freeze! Do not move!" One of them shouts. They all have weapons
drawn, and are prepared to fire if Zena does not cooperate.
Kinetica
flies above, watching the action, with drunken interest. She sees the
various news crews moving in closer, giving play by play accounts of
the action to the viewing public.
Roughneck answers the
guard
who spoke: "Why are you
pointing your guns at Zena? Fella, you don't know what you're up
against! Back off! We came here to help." Frank has no idea what
started this mess, but wearing a uniform doesn't necessarily mean these
men are to be trusted. [Again Frank holds his action, waiting to see
what happens and hoping for the best. If anyone shoots, he will try to
take away their gun. 5S for attack, 7D for dodge. Did all our cards
change?]
Zena
kicks at the guard about to shoot Tolwynn, giving off her throaty
battlecry all throughout her combat. She seems to be smiling with glee.
She does not seem to be trying to pull out her weapon of choice, vying
instead for a more "hands on" approach. [4S for
the kick; 8D for the dodge].
“Don’t
mess with Metwas of Fortune or Super Fworce or whatever the hwell we’re
called this week,” says Kinetica. She expands her force field to
encompass Zena, Roughneck, and any other teammates that happen to
join
them. [Playing 8D if need be, 5A if she needs to dodge]
Menagero
feels the strength course through his veins. "Grrrr-CHOO!" He giggles
as he watches the crazy confrontation taking place. "Just like the old
days." He knocks on the paddywagon. "How are you faring, BioBeast?"
Menagero
hears the creature howl from the inide of the wagon.
[Michael,
does MM plan on getting involved in the fray if the CAPE agents attack?]
"Zena
Stop!" screams Verve. Then to the assembeld CAPE agents, "She's a
foreigner, she doesn't understand!" Suddenly a brilliant idea
flashes
in his head. "She's a diplomat! She has diplomatic immunity! If you
harm her you'll be dragging CAPE into a major political clusterfuck!
Check your records for Zena. Z-E-N-A." Verve hopes his ploy works and
that CAPE's records are up to date, if anyone even listens to him.
Verve doubts it will work , but it is worth a try.
The
sound of Zena's battlecry as she attacks, answered by the assembeled
CAPE agents opening fire with their blasters, indicate that his ploy
has failed.
[I want to give Joe a chance to post before I move
this along.]
Zena leaps over Tolwynn,
and lands a flying kick into the chest of the
CAPE agent who was pointing his blaster at her lioness. The kick sends
the man hurtling backwards through the air and coming to an
abrupt
halt on the lawn.
The other CAPE agents immediately take aim and are about to open fire
on Zena. Roughneck, seeing this occur attempts to disarm the agent
closest to him, but something takes over. Something cold, lethal and
merciless...the Core. In a millisecond, computer schematics flash
before Frank's eye's detailing all of the agent's weak points,
suggested strike zones, appropriate combat maneuvers as well as the top
five maneuvers with the highest likelihood of lethality. Frank chooses
the top ranked maneuver, extending a dagger length laser from the back
his hand and jabbing it just below the visor of the man's helmet. It
cuts through the agent's body armor, sinking into his neck. The man
drops like a stone. The computer indicates that the man is severely
injured but not dead.
[Roughneck is in a frenzy. he failed to make his desperate Willpower
action (20). Only by making a desperate Willpower action can you quell
the rage. The core is also making you declare lethal attacks]
The remaining seven agents open fire as kinetica swoops down to
encompass Zena, Frank and Tolwynn inside an expanded force field.
The
shots bounce harmlessly off of the force field, but the strain is too
much for Kinetica and she immediately passes out. The forece field
disappears as well.
A shimmering light envelopes all of the heroes, along with a slight
lightheadedness. A moment later they find themselves on top of the
Biogen building. [This includes everyone. even those not involved in
the fray.]"Sorry for the surprise. i figure I needed to get everyone
out of there quick" says Sci-Fi.
MM's powers shift again. This time taking on Kinetica's powers as she
is closest to him.
Kinetica stirs from unconsciousness. Her head pounding like a drum.
"Could you keep it down?" moans Kinetica, trying to get her
bearings.
"I'm having like the worse hangover."
"What a freaking disaster" mutters Verve, shaking his head in disbelief.
Shouts of terror can be heard coming from inside Bio-gen.
"That sounds like Dr. Sheen yelling" says Verve.
Roughneck makes no reply as his computer core immediately scans the
area and locks on to the CAPE agents below. They are still unsure
of
the whereabouts of Meta-Force. He raises his arm preparing to fire on
them with his laser.
"Oh, no," Menegero extends his Kinertica-esque forcefield to surrond
Frank. "Roughneck is losing it..." 1A and 6I
As the forcefield surrounds Frank, he immediately turn his arm towards
MM and is about to fire on him. With a tremendous force of will, Frank
is able to overcome the computer commands telling him to kill his
friend. His brain feels like it is on fire and a small trickle of
blood escapes his nose.
"What the hell is wrong with you!" Verve shouts at Frank. "and you to,
for that matter," indicating Zena. "Those are federal agents! Welcome
to America's Most Wanted!"
Zena sneers at Verve. More screams of terror from inside biogen
interrupts Verve's tirade.
"We...must...do...something." says Sci-Fi, slipping into Shatner mode.
"Handle it." states Zena. She then draws her chakram to throw at
Roughneck realising that he is out of control. "I'll handle him." Zena
stops herself just before releasing the weapon at Frank's head. She can
see in his eyes that he is no longer ready to attack Rupert or the CAPE
agents. She holds her position just in case it's a ruse... in case he
attacks anyone else. [6 A to dodge]
Frank looks at the others but doesn't say anything as he falls to his
knees in pain. For maybe the first time, they see true fear in his
eyes. He remembers everything that happened. His computer core had
taken control--not of his mind, but of the cybernetic skeleton inside
his body. The core had ordered the cybernetic skeleton to attack the
CAPE agent, and it had--moving of its own volition and dragging Frank's
body along with it. It was the worst sensation he'd ever felt, and
extremely painful. He ached all over, his muscles torn from the
movements of the machine his body is wrapped around. And now the core
was doing its job as it always had, sending relief by causing his brain
to secrete endorphins and regenerating his internal injuries. The
shouts from inside Biogen barely register in his mind, and he makes no
move. He sees Zena with her Chakram ready to throw, her brow creased in
a V. He hears Verve's anger somewhere in the back of his attention.
Things are unraveling quickly. Kinetica shows up drunk, Zena attacks a
federal agent, and Frank flips out, possibly killing one. Verve wonders
what could possibly go wrong next. "So what do we do guys? Dr. Sheen is
obviously in trouble. Do we try to save him, and hope we can talk our
way out of the mess with CAPE or do we say screw it and call it a
night? CAPE already knows who we are and were we live due to
being
sanctioned heroes. It won't do any good to hide. They'll find us
eventually. As much as I hate to say it we need someone to take charge
here and try to salvage this mess. Rupert, do you have any ideas?
"
[As GM I cannot allow Verve go into a position of leadership. Or Sci-Fi
for that matter, as I am running him until Joe can post regularly. If
someone else wants to assume control of Sci-Fi to run him that would be
great, since I can't really seperate GM from player knowledge. Well I
can, but it is complicated. ]
Suddenly a loud crash, like shattering glass is heard and Dr.
Sheen
can be seen flying from a second story window
of Biogen and landing on the lawn below with a loud thump. He
lays
still for a moment trying to catch his breath, then scrambles
desperately to his feet, limping as quickly as he can away from the
building. "Help! it's trying to kill me!" he screams in terror.
He is
bleeding from several cuts and scratches
[He is not literally flying, more like he was thrown or jumped out. The
window is very near the source of the original explosion]
The malevolent wind that passed through the crowd earlier can again be
felt by the heroes and it is blows past thems by in the direction
of
Dr. Sheen. The doctor looks back towards Biogen in horror and is
sudden;y plucked from teh ground by some unsen force. He hovers in teh
air screaming, as bits of debris from teh explosion also silently
take
to the air and begin pummeling him.
"Oh God!" *THWACK* "Somebody Help me!!" *THUD*
The remaining CAPE agents move forward to surround the doctor and are
all simultanously knocked back in different directions by the unseen
force. None of them stand back up once they are down.
Sci-Fi runs to the edge of teh building. "Innocents ...in
....danger...must ...take action!" he excalims as he vanishes in a
flash of photons and reappears on the ground near the doctor.
"I guess that's our que. Wait up Sci-Fi!"", says Verve grabbing hold of
a pipe on the side exterior of teh building and slifing down it to the
ground. Once there he pulls out his sketchbook and begins scribbling
away
[Menagero does not register any metahumans near the doctor. Roughneck
can discern a bizaree, unidentifiable energy field surrounding Dr.
Sheen. The building is 3 stories high in case you were wondering]
Snapping out of his daze, Roughneck sees the energy field and tells the
others: "There's something there, like an energy field. I dunno what it
is." He takes aim with his laser, intending to shoot some of the debris
that is swirling around and pummeling the doctor.
But before he fires, he hesitates. What if his core wakes up again?
When he tried to disarm the guard, the mere intent to do so had
triggered the core, and it could happen again. Frank lowers his arm and
sags again to his knees, looking at Zena and Rupert and Kinetica, who
are still nearby. "I can't do it," he mumbles.
MM runs toward the strange energy being. "I am not picking up any type
of meta-human signature from this unseen force. Perhaps it is some sort
of alien entity whose physiology is so abstract and different from our
own...My hypothesis notwithstanding, this team needs a leader. No need
to go back into the speeched of my early days but until someone comes
up with a better idea, listen up!" MM stands next to Kinetica.
"Kinetica (sober up, will you) and I will fly around the vicinity and
see if we can contain this mysterious maelstrom in a giant force field.
We will localize it around the injured doctor. Sci-Fi, the moment our
field is activated, teleport the injured man free. The rest of you, get
these injured CAPE agents out of here! Go, team, go!"
OOC: Toss my best cards. Hopefully, the team goes with this.
Roughneck, glad to have something to do other than enter combat, nods
and moves to the closest CAPE agent, to get him away from the energy
field. He will try to get as many as he can [can I get two of them with
a contingent action--I have superspeed!?].
With her chakram at the ready, Zena watches Frank move into action. She
is unsure how the CAPE agents will react to the reappearance of herself
and Roughneck after the fight. Zena chooses to stand back and keep an
eye on the scene. Should anyone attempt to attack Roughneck or the
others, be it CAPE agent or other menace, she'll try to bring them
down. Zena sends Tolwynn in to drag injured CAPE agents out of harm's
way.
[Use the most appropriate cards I have for my actions and dodge.
My
attack, if needed, will go at the first person to attacks a member of
the team, be it Tolwynn, Kinetica or whoever.] The heroes
snap into action following, for
the most part, Master Menagero's plan. Menagero flies near Dr. Sheen
extending his force field, large enough to engulf the doctor and
hopefully the unseen enemy. Sci-Fi teleports in, grabs the scientist,
and re-materializes back on the roof of BioGen where Zena and Kinetica
still stand.
Menagero can't be sure if the force field is containing the
invisible foe or not, but there is still a large amount of wind and
debris, floating about the area.
Verve, Roughneck and Tolwynn
are busy dragging unconscious CAPE agents away from the scene. As Verve
bends down to grab another agent, his sketchbook and pencil are
suddenly ripped from his pocket by an invisible force. "Hey! Give that
back. ' verve exclaims , chasing after it.
"Am I that wasted, or did Verve's pad just sketch itself," asks Julia.
The
pencil begins scribbling furiously across the sketchbook page.
The
page is torn out, and shoved in front of Verve's face. Verve grabs the
page silently then reads it aloud for everyone to hear.
"Hey guys listen up!...It says 'I am Carson.I will die soon. Help Me.
Must rejoin with body."
As
if in answer to Verve's announcement, the Biogen Beast begins hammering
at the sides of the CAPE paddy wagon with renewed vigor.
Frank continues dragging CAPE agents out of danger, but he
looks at the bio-beast's cage [visually--he has telescopic vision I
think] to make sure the thing isn't about to bust out. If it does, he
will stop dragging CAPE agents and try to stop the beast. [no card play
necessary that I can see...] He hears Verve, and says to the others,
"So what's that mean? Where's his body?" If there are other scientists
within range of Frank's voice, he addresses the question to them as
well.
Another message is quickly scrawled out on the pad. It reads:
The creature is my body. Sheen tried to kill me. Verve reads this
aloud to the others.
"Hey you guys!" Verve shouts to the
rooftop where Kinetica, Sci-Fi and Zena stand with Dr.
Sheen, "Make
sure the good doctor doesn't run off! He's got some questions that need
answereing!"
Dr Sheen looks around nervously at the trio, then suddenly
makes a
run for the rooftop doorway that leads to the stairwell.
Kinetica
takes flight in pursuit. When she gets close enough, she'll
attempt to
lift the good doctor into the air. (Play 4I natch, what with it being
her only card).
Master
Menagero follows Kinetica and extends a forcefield to block the
stairwell. "Ah, ah, ah, bad doctor."
Zena
watches Kinetica
take to the air to go after Dr. Sheen. She has every confidance that
Kinetica will catch him, but she decides to hobble the man to make sure
he can't try to escape later. She hurls her chakram towards the back of
his left knee. [4 A for the attack, 6 A if I need a dodge]
Verve grabs one of the CAPE agent's
blasters and heads for the paddy wagon. He takes aim at the lock. "Get
ready for action, Roughneck. I am unleashing this thing. Hopefully the
two halves will know what to do"
"WHAT?!"
There is
near panic in Roughneck's voice as Verve's blaster goes off [I time it
that way for dramatic effect]. Normally he would welcome a fight, but
now he senses the core lurking beneath his conscious mind, waiting for
a chance to awaken. He is loathe to give it that chance.
MM
blocks the doorway, as Zena clips Dr.
Sheen in the back of the leg with her chakram. He starts to fall but is
scooped up and held aloft by kinetica.
Verve blasts the lock off
the paddy wagon and the Bio-Beast emerges. It looks skyward, where the
wind was blowing the most fiercely and seems to be listening to some
unheard voice. It moves toward the wind, starting to glow. As it does
so it begins to change. Changing to a human sized male in his
late
20's. The man stands up in his tattered clothing. "Thank
You! You
saved my life he exclaims to the heroes. "Much longer and my soul
would have evaporated. I'm Dr. Carson by the way. "
Sci-Fi teleports everyone back down to the ground nearby Verve and
Roughneck.
Upon
seeing this miraculous transformation the assembled press gang rushes
forward mobbing the doctor and swamping him with a slew of questions.
he is a bit taken aback by the attention but answers all of their
questions.
"Dr. Sheen and I have been working on a procedure that would
isolate the human spirit so that we may answer one of the biggest
questions of the universe. Does man have a soul?
Unfortunately,
Dr. Sheen was working for profit and glory, while I was working
for
the betterment mankind. Tonight, we got into a heated debate over this
and Dr. Sheen pushed me into the chamber designed to
isolate the
soul from the human body and activated it. It worked, separating my
soul from my body, but transforming my body into a savage Neanderthal
like beast. I knew right away in my disembodied form, that
if my body
and soul weren't recombined in a very short amount of time they would
both cease to exist. Unfortunately my body went into a
rampage and
ran off, and my soul was somehow tied to the location of my death
Luckily for me, the heroes of Meta-force were here to save the
day as well as preventing the loss of countless lives I may have taken
in my beastly form. "
Sci-Fi experiences a psychic distress
call from his brother Luke. "Sorry guys, gotto go. Family emergency" he
says and teleports away.
Zena
moves over to Frank, he starts to put her hand on his shoulder, but
then changes her mind. Instead, in her authorative voice she begins to
speak, ignoring Sci-Fi completely. "Roughneck. I wish a moment of your
time. Ineed to talk with you." Suddenly a flash goes off in Zena's
face. A reporter takes a picture of Meta-force after their attention
was directed there by Dr. Sheen.
Zena glares at the media for their interruption. A few more flashes
sound off.
Frank,
still shaken from his experiences this night, looks up at Zena and
says, "Sure, anything for you Zena."
As the
reporters turn their attention to
the assembled members of Meta-Force, a great rumbling is heard and the
skies turn a fiery blood red. The crowd goes quiet in confusion then
mass hysteria breaks out.
[to be continued in the next turn... Everyone receives one
XP for succesfully completing this adventure. A new one will begin
